it supplies 64% of the St<strong>at</strong>e’s<br />
drinking w<strong>at</strong>er supplies (5.4<br />
million residents).<br />
• The Highlands Region also<br />
includes large tracts of forests,<br />
farmland and critical habit<strong>at</strong><br />
areas, as well as large<br />
established communities such<br />
as Morristown, Parsippany-Troy<br />
Hills and Jefferson Township.<br />
• It was design<strong>at</strong>ed the first<br />
“Special Resource Area” in the<br />
St<strong>at</strong>e Plan.<br />
