Dear Colleague,
It is our pleasure to inform you that the V. International
AMD-Symposium of the DOG will take place September
8-10, 2011, in Baden-Baden. We would like to invite
you to participate in the discussion of the latest ideas
and developments in the field of age-related macular
degeneration and thus stimulate further progress in AMD
research and treatment.
In recent years major insights into AMD have emerged
from molecular and cell biological, morphological and
biochemical studies on disease-relevant pathways.
Genetic and environmental factors have been identified
in complex, multifactorial AMD. Advances in imaging
methods contribute to a better understanding of the
disease. This expansion of basic knowledge with
identification of novel targets has been translated into
new prophylactic and efficacious treatment paradigms.
Four previous stimulating and successful International
AMD Symposia have been held in the inspiring and
breathtaking environment of beautiful Baden-Baden
at the border of the Blackwood Forest. Over the years the
special atmosphere of these meetings with its renowned
international experts covering a wide range of topics
has always resulted in stimulating discussions and a
fruitful exchange of knowledge. Therefore it is a great
pleasure for us to invite clinicians and basic scientists

These aspects of basic science and clinical research into age-related
macular changes and AMD will be addressed by an invited selection
of experts from around the world as well as in free paper presentations.
We encourage you to join us and visit Baden-Baden to participate
in an international gathering of experts exchanging ideas in this
very beautiful part of the world.
CME credits
The symposium will be certified as further education according to
the guidelines of the German Medical Association. We also applied
to the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical
Education (EACCME) to qualify the symposium for the provision of
CME credits given to attending medical specialist. The EACCME is
an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
EACCME credits are recognized by the American Medical Association
towards the Physician's Recognition Award (PRA).
