Fri, April 25 th : New York/Rome<br />

Depart JFK or Newark Airport on your overnight flight to Rome. Dinner served in flight.<br />

Sat, April 26 th : Rome<br />

Upon arrival at Rome airport we are transferred to our hotel. En route we stop at St. Paul<br />

Outside the Walls for Mass.<br />

Sun, April 27 th : Canonization <strong>of</strong> Blessed John Paul<br />

This morning we go to St. Peters Square for the Canonization <strong>of</strong> Blessed John Paul. After<br />

the ceremony, we have free time to enjoy Rome on our own.<br />

This evening we have a Panorama <strong>of</strong> Rome. We see the Coliseum, the Roman Forum and<br />

the monument to Victor Emmanuel. We leave our bus for a walk through Rome. We start<br />

at Piazza Navona where we see the artist square and the cafes that line it. Minstrels pass<br />

from cafe to café entertaining the tourist. We continue through the side streets <strong>of</strong> Rome<br />

to the Parthenon. We end our stroll at the Trevi Fountain where we stop to throw our<br />

coins in the Fountain.<br />

Mon, April 28 th : Rome/Assisi<br />

Upon arrival in Assisi we visit the Basilica <strong>of</strong> Santa Maria degli Angeli where we find the<br />

Porziuncola (the little church St. Francis built). Next we check into our hotel. After time<br />

to rest, we visit to Basilicas <strong>of</strong> St. Francis and St. Clare, where we see the Tombs <strong>of</strong> the two<br />

Saints.<br />

Tue, April 29 th : Assisi/San Gimignano/Assisi<br />

Today we travel to Tuscany to visit San Gimignano. San Gimignano rises on a hill<br />

dominating the Elsa Valley with its towers. <strong>The</strong> construction <strong>of</strong> the towers dates back to<br />

the 11 th and 13 th centuries. Once the seat <strong>of</strong> a small Etruscan village, it began its life as a<br />

town in the 10 th century taking its name from the Holy Bishop <strong>of</strong> Modena, St. Gimignano,<br />

who is said to have saved the village from the barbarian hordes. <strong>The</strong> town increased in<br />

wealth and developed greatly during the Middle Ages thanks to the "Via Francigena" the<br />

trading and pilgrim's route that crossed it. After our visit, we go to a Winery for a Food &<br />

Winery tasting.


Wed, April 30 th : Assisi/San Giovanni Rotondo<br />

Morning departure to San Giovanni Rotondo. Upon arrival we visit the Basilica <strong>of</strong> Our<br />

Lady <strong>of</strong> Grace.<br />

Thu, May 1 st : San Giovanni Rotondo Visit the English Office & St Michael’s Cave<br />

Today we go to the English Office for a talk on <strong>Padre</strong> <strong>Pio</strong>. Next we visit the new Church<br />

<strong>of</strong> St. <strong>Pio</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pietrelcina to see <strong>Padre</strong> <strong>Pio</strong>’s Tomb. After lunch we visit St. Michael’s Cave<br />

where St. Michael the Archangel appeared.<br />

Fri, May 2 nd : San Giovanni Rotondo/Pietrelcina/Sorrento<br />

This morning we leave the Apulia region and head west to Sorrento. We arrive at the<br />

region <strong>of</strong> Campania where we visit Pietrelcina, birthplace <strong>of</strong> <strong>Padre</strong> <strong>Pio</strong>. We visit his<br />

home, the Church <strong>of</strong> Santa Ana, where he was baptized and we have Mass at Santa Maria<br />

degli Angeli. Next we stop at Piana Romana to visit the place where <strong>Padre</strong> <strong>Pio</strong> received<br />

the invisible stigmata. After our visit, we continue to Sorrento.<br />

Sat May 3 rd : Sorrento/Pompeii/Rome<br />

This morning we have free time in Sorrento before we go to Pompeii for Mass at the<br />

Basilica <strong>of</strong> Our Lady <strong>of</strong> Pompeii. After Mass we visit the Ruins <strong>of</strong> Pompeii. We have free<br />

time for lunch (on our Own) and shopping before we continue to Rome.<br />

Morning departure to Rome airport for our return flight to the USA.
