COUNTRY CLUB
OCTOBER 2006
VOLUME XV ISSUE 10
Dedicated to Mr. James T. “Red” Hudson
Our Board Chairman,
James T. “Red”
Hudson, passed
away on August 20,
2006. Red lived a full
life of service to God,
service to country,
service to family,
service to friends and
service to strangers.
His loss leaves a hollow space for all of us
who knew him.
We celebrate a life well lived.
Red was born October 3, 1924, in Pine Bluff,
Arkansas to Luther Thomas Hudson and
Milline Corine Howard Hudson. His family later
FLIGHT
WIN-
NERS
moved to a farm in Tennessee , where, as a
child and teenager, Red learned hard work
and the basics of agriculture.
Red served his country with three years of
service in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Red started his career as a feed-store clerk
for Ralston Purina Company and eventually
became Vice President of Ralston Purina’s West Central broiler and turkey operating division. In 1972, at age
47, when most successful businessmen are settling in for the peak of their careers, Ralston Purina put Mr.
Hudson’s division up for sale. Red led a heavily leveraged management buy-out to acquire the division for $4
million with only $60,000 of equity. With this purchase, Hudson Foods was born.
Under Red’s leadership, Hudson Foods grew into a poultry and meat processing company with 12,500
employees, with 19 processing plants in 11 states and with annual sales of over $2 billion. Just 14 years after
its founding, in February 1986, Hudson Foods made its initial public offering to become a public company. Not
too bad a return on that first $60,000 of equity capital to support the Ralston Purina leveraged buy-out.
The list of Red’s awards include the Master Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1995, and the National Poultry
and Food Distributors Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998. In 2005, Red was inducted into the Arkansas
Business Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the National Poultry Hall of Fame and the Arkansas
Agriculture Hall of Fame.
Imbued with a mission to give back to his community and his country, Red supported a number of local
charitable causes with both his wealth and his influence, including the University of Arkansas, Northwest
Arkansas Community College, the Walton Arts Center, Rogers Youth Center, and Rogers Public Library.
Mr. James T. “Red “ Hudson
As with many men who led such successful business careers in his generation, Red and his wife, June, did
not let their success change their character and values. Despite his incredible leadership and business vision,
Red was quick to credit his senior management and many loyal employees for the success of Hudson Foods
and Pinnacle Country Club.
As a selfless Christian servant, Red was always more interested in the well-being of others than with his
own.
In life as in business, Red’s life, may be summed up in the Hudson Foods mission statement: “We will strive
to be a company whose worth in dollars is determined by its emphasis on human values, rather than a
company whose human values is determined by its emphasis on dollars.”
James T. “Red” Hudson was a hero to many and a friend to all. One like him shall not soon pass
among us again. Our friend, Red Hudson, will be missed.
A PLAQUE PLACED ABOVE HIS LOCKER #106: IN MEMORY OF JAMES T. “RED” HUDSON A Gentleman Of The
Highest Order Who Gave Back To His Community And His Neighbors With A Generosity Seldom Seen. He Loved The
Game Of Golf & Exemplified The Principles Of Integrity It Represented. We Are Allowing Him “To Play Through” With The
Hope That We Shall Be Included In His Foursome Again. The Men of The Table, August 2006 (See Page 5 for photo)
GOLF COURSE NEWS PAGE 3
Now that cooler weather is finally upon us and the 100+ degree days are in the rear
view mirror, your maintenance staff will be
focusing their attention on the necessary repairs
on the golf course so that you all can enjoy
your club during our beautiful fall days. As
most of you have seen, we have changed our
Bentgrass collars to a Cavalier Zoysia grass
around our putting surfaces. We will be
topdressing these areas to continue to smooth
them out. As of December 4th, we will have
an outside contractor on site installing new drain
lines into our existing greens. This new XGD
system (Existing Greens Drainage) has come
highly recommended from clubs such as
Oakmont, Pine Valley and Bellerive. The result
will be a revived green without the need for
expensive and disruptive reconstruction.
During this month you will also see that we
are removing the Bermuda grass that is
currently taking over the island on #15.
Once we have made several applications to
this Bermuda we will be converting this island
back to 100% Tall Fescue. We are also
looking at making some irrigation changes
on this island so that we are able to irrigate
just the rough and just the green so we
can have better control over the varying
needs of the turfgrasses.
In the not too distant future you can expect to
see an outside contractor installing a new type of
drainage into our existing putting surfaces on holes
#4, #5, #6, #7 and #11. This installation process
will take about 2-3 days to complete per
green and will be ready for play as soon as they
are finished. This process came highly recommended
by clubs such as Oakmonth and Pine
Valley. If you would like to see other clubs that
have installed this XGD SYSTEM, you can visit
their website at greensdrainage.com.
Now is the time to change all of your flower beds from summer annual flowers
to the winter annuals. If you have not already done so, you will want to get
them in the ground as soon as possible to grow a strong root system prior to
the depths of winter.

Everyday, the Pinnacle Management and Staff strive to protect and increase the Value of Your
Membership. There are several ways that we ensure the Value of Your Membership. Our
Guest Usage Policy is a prime example of one of our many methods to Preserve Membership
Value. This is not a new policy, but a policy that we are consistently and impartially enforcing.
Our Guest Policy allows for any one guest, regardless of the Member they are accompanying,
to join us for a round of golf or game of tennis no more than six times in a calendar year. We
welcome you to bring guests to the Club, but we set guidelines for our guests, to guarantee
Your Membership Value for years to come.
THEFT & VANDALISM IN OUR OWN BACKYARDS
We make every effort to maintain a very pleasant atmosphere here at Pinnacle, we go the extra step
to assure your safety, the grounds are kept neat and you have a great place to enjoy your time at home with us.
So once again, we have to ask for your help with something many of you may not be aware of.
In recent months we have experienced vandalism to the golf course, tennis and pool. Because this has
escalted to theft and not just kid pranks we, at Pinnacle, have been forced to create a new policy that should
never have had to happen in a place like this. These vandalisms and thefts were not from the outside, it has all
been resident related.
Pinnacle Country Club has now adopted a no tolerance policy in regards to theft or vandalism. All
incidents from now on will be reported to the Rogers Police Department for investigation and all perpetrators
will be prosecuted.
We have also adopted a policy that only an adult property owner may announce incoming
guests and all parties must be announced to Security and have adult supervision at all times.
It is important that we get the support of all of our Members and Residents in order to keep the
Pinnacle the premier community in Northwest Arkansas.
Thanks for your help and support,
