PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL REPORTS

Over the last few weeks we have had an online survey
available to gain some parental feedback to support
the recommendations being compiled as part of the
school review. We have had only five responses to the
online survey, so this week we have included a paper
version in the newsletter. Please complete the paper
version and return to school as soon as possible. Your
comments will be valued.
The end of term two is coming very quickly. This
means student reports and parent-teacher interviews
for primary parents. The P-6 interviews will be held on
the last day of term two. This will be a pupil free day
for P-6 students.
If you have any concerns or issues that you wish to discuss with
me please feel free to give me a call at school (55983381) or on
(0407 345 324)
Uniform: WHAT IS SCHOOL UNIFORM? A school uniform is an
outfit—a set of standardized clothes selected and approved by
our School Council and the expectations are outlined in our
dress code policy (currently under review). Our school is
identified by its school uniform and most students demonstrate
pride in their school by wearing the correct uniform. By wearing
school uniform correctly, students demonstrate a sense of
belonging to our school community. The cooler months are
here; please ensure your child has the correct warm school
uniform. Second hand uniform items can be purchased from the
school or brand new items can be purchased from our local
distributor, Jo Jo’s.
information about both the treatments, and the side effects of
them, for people currently faced with this challenge. Some very
important questions were asked by our students to help them
gain understanding of this situation.
5 -8 SUB-SCHOOL REPORT
Congratulations to Nathan Gillingham for being awarded as
the overall winner of the ‘Letters from the Heart’
competition. I was honoured to read all of the letters
submitted by the year 5 and 6 students. They certainly
brought a tear to the eye. All winners and letter recipients
will be invited to a very special morning tea early next term.
Nathan was awarded with a special certificate by two of our
Student Leaders, Rhys Kensit and Toni-Mae Sutherland.
Australian Defence Force
Community/Careers partnerships: As part of our year 10 Home
group course we have been fortunate enough to have both local
community members and external agencies present their career
knowledge to our Year 10 students. Last week (pictured above)
we had some representatives from The Australian Defence Force
deliver an excellent presentation. Thank you to all of the local
community members who have contributed to this program this
semester; your knowledge is invaluable.
And remember: ‘Once you replace negative thoughts with
positive ones, you'll start having positive results.’ Anon.
SEAN FITZPATRICK
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Planning for our P-6 parent teacher interview day on June 29 th is
well underway. All families will be offered the opportunity for an
interview with their child’s teacher on the last day of term. To
make this possible there will be no school for students in grades
prep to 6 on the 29 th June. A time allocation system has been
used to enable families to move between interviews with as few
delays as possible. Interviews will be conducted from 9am until
2:30pm. If you are unable to attend your allocated time you are
asked to contact the school so that other arrangements can be
made. By holding these interviews after written reports have
been distributed parents are able to clarify any queries they may
have. Please look out for your individual time to be sent home
next week.
Well, we managed 68% first returns for our ‘target head-lice
weekend’ which is an improvement on our last 62%. However,
not really enough for our eradication campaign to be successful.
I have once again sent out individual letters to those who have
not returned their slips and would ask for anyone who receives
one to PLEASE do your bit for our school.
The visit from the ‘Camp Quality Puppets,’ last week, was a
wonderful opportunity for our students to consider how they
can support the many members of our school community who
are currently undergoing, or have family members undergoing,

Year 5 & 6 students have embarked on their ‘Healthy
Lifestyles Program’. Students will focus on healthy bodies
and minds by keeping fit and making healthy eating
choices.
Congratulations to Ahliya Harris and Abbey Ralph who
were awarded first and second prizes for their speeches at
the recent Warrnambool Eisteddfod.
Well done to all year 7 & 10 Peer Support students on their
very successful bake sale last Wednesday. Proceeds will
assist with a special day out in Geelong for the students
involved.
Thank-you to the prospective students and their parents
who attended the Timboon P-12 Open Night. This was a
fabulous opportunity for families to discuss with staff the
educational expectations during the 7 to 12 years. We are
now taking enrolments for year 7, 2013.

P-4 SUB-SCHOOL REPORT
Prep
Our prep students have been continuing with their discussions
on wild and windy weather this week. The students will soon be
making some wind chimes as part of their study. If you have any
spare yoghurt of margarine containers, could you please send
them along to school with your child? This week in Literacy, the
students are looking at the letter and sound, ‘Pp’. They will be
focusing on the sound that this letter makes and words that
begin with P, p. In maths this week, the preps are measuring
capacity.
Grade 1 and 2
Our grade 1 and 2 students are continuing with the topic of ‘Fats
and Sugars’ from last week. Tomorrow, the students will be
visiting an exercise class with Carly Dennis, to see what we need
to do to keep our bodies healthy and fit. In Maths this week, our
grade 1 students have been involved in subtracting with
numbers up to 20. Grade 2 maths involves counting up to 1000;
especially focusing on what happens when we change over
hundreds (199, 200, 201 etc.).
Grade 3 and 4
Our grade 3 students have been finishing off their work on
forces this week, by learning about magnets and how simple
machines work. This has included looking at levers and pulleys.
Our grade 4 students have been beginning their investigations
into night and day. This will involve them learning about our
solar system and how the movement of Earth creates day and
night. This week the students designed gliders as part of their
homework activities. The students discussed their reasons for
designing their gliders as they did, talking about forces such as
thrust, lift, gravity and drag. We enjoyed test flying our gliders
and comparing the flights of different designs.
If you have a moment, please visit our school website at
www.timboonp12.vic.edu.au. We have recently added some
new articles and photos from our P-4 Sub School. We have also
included a short survey for parents to complete, if you have the
time. We value your feedback and this survey will enable you to
share your ideas and feelings with us, in regard to the programs
that we offer in our P-4 Sub School. I am looking forward to
viewing your responses.
Edustar tool of the week. Edustar is a free suite of
tools provided through all Netbooks through the
Department of Education. Debut Video Capture is an
easy-to-use video recorder program that can capture video
files directly onto a Netbook.
7 ways to use Debut in your classrooms: 1) Producing
‘how-to’ demonstration and learning and teaching videos
clips by recording screen movements (including audio) to
video. 2) Creating your own videos with captions and other
effects from your webcam or other video input device. 4)
Recording video memos and email to others such as
classmates or teacher, and capturing instant snapshots
from your videos to save them as JPEG files to be inserted
into other software. 5) Debut for digital diaries Ask
students to use Debut to create digital diaries – this could
be done at school or at home. You could ask a range of
questions for students to respond to in their diaries. 6) Ask
students to use Comic Life to storyboard a short story.
Student could then use Movie Maker, or their Netbook
webcam and Debut, to make their story into a movie. 7)
Discuss how closely their movie corresponds with the
storyboard. Tip: When using Debut for the first time
remember to set the file path so you know where to find
your footage
