Well I hate to think that our beautiful Fall weather has
come to an end. There was some of that strange white
stuff flying around today. But it’s a harbinger of what’s
to come.
We had a great time at the workshop with Karen
Menzies. Her on Wednesday was excellent.
Hopefully this will be an inspiration for the guild’s
participation in the Quilt Show coming up in April.
Please be sure to sign-up to help at this show. This is
your GUILD AND QUILT SHOW! Remember the fun
is in participation.

SILENT AUCTION
Wow! Thank you so much for the fabulous donations
brought in this month for our upcoming
Quilt Show Silent Auction. The variety of the
items was wonderful.
Congratulations to our winner of the draw, Judi
Van Zant! The committee is looking forward to
the December donations. As I am unable to attend
that meeting (will be in Florida), my friend Joan
Gray will be collecting your items and doing the
draw.
If you wish to go with the colour theme,
December’s suggested colour is: CHRISTMAS.

Show’s Fabric Challenge. The theme “Memories
In Stitches” should make it easy to be creative and
the material itself is inspiring I’m told! The cost is
only $4.00 and the fabric can be purchased before
the meeting at the front of the room.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR KQG
QUILT SHOW
Here is an opportunity for all our members to participate
actively in our upcoming quilt show. Whether young
or old, experienced or new quilters, we need your assistance.
Please be generous in offering your time and talents
to make our 2011 Quilt Show the best possible success. We
encourage the members to offer suggestions and we certainly
appreciate hearing your ideas.
Demonstrations coordinators are Anne Heffernan
and Judi Van Zant.
We will be asking for volunteers in the following areas:
1. Demonstrations of hand quilting on old-fashion
quilting frame
2. Hand Quilting Techniques:
- hand appliqué
- embellishments
- hand embroidery
- hand piecing
3. Machine Quilting Techniques:
- machine embroidery
- machine quilting
- machine appliqué
- special techniques
APPRAISALS
We are hoping some of the guild members will ‘commit’
to having at least one of their lovely quilts appraised.
We need to have at least three appraisals per day to make
it worthwhile bringing Rosalie Tennison to our Quilt
Show; at the moment we are okay for one day.
The time and money you put into your quilts deserve an
appraiser’s value put to it and if you are wanting to sell a
quilt, you may find it is worth more than you thought.
We are very fortunate to have Rosalie agree to come to
our Quilt Show so think about taking advantage of this
wonderful opportunity. Those who have had their quilts
appraised by Rosalie have been very impressed with the
thorough job she does, and were pleasantly surprised at
her evaluation. You will certainly get more than your
$50.00’s worth of information!
The sign up board will be on the wall at the meetings.

FUDGE SALE
Joyce Armstrong has graciously offered to
make and sell her mouth watering home-made
fudge again this year at the December meeting.
All proceeds will be donated to HELPING
HANDS.
Christmas tins, which contain 35 pieces, are
$15.00, smaller packages are $5.00. They make
a “tasty” hostess gift.

CHEESE BALL
8 oz. (250g) cream cheese (regular or light)
4 oz. (125g) wedge of old or medium cheddar
cheese – shredded/grated
finely chopped sweet pickle or olives (or 1
tbsp. Relish)
½ small onion, finely chopped (or a tsp. dried
minced onion)
tsp. HP sauce or Worcestershire sauce
Dash of sweet pickle juice (or Lemon Juice)
Dash of paprika, salt & pepper
finely chopped walnuts or parsley
Soften and blend cheese, add remaining ingredients
except (a). Shape into a ball and roll in either
of (a). Top with a maraschino cherry
(optional). Chill. - Can be frozen.
Victoria’s Quilts
Victoria’s Quilts meets at the Shrine Centre,
(corner of Sherbrooke and Brealey), 9 - 3 on the
3rd Thursday of the month. Bring a brown bag
lunch. You can always drop in and pick up a
quilt kit.

MEDALLION QUILT REMINDER
Our November meeting was so busy we didn’t have an opportunity to share our progress.
Please bring your medallion tops to the December meeting. There will be plenty of time to
share and enjoy!

First - A very special “Thanks” to Maureen O’Neill for giving us clear concise directions/
ideas for the “delightful Snowman.” Wall-hanging. Anyone who previously hadn’t completed
the Tall Tree Wall-hanging, were instructed in that direction, as well. We had a wonderful turnout,
and lots of sharing of snip-its of fabric, ideas, and special techniques. A fun time was had by
all, and we should have a good turnout of completed snowmen at the December meeting.
Now - For the 2011 Line up, we thought we would start the year off gently, and let people get
caught up on their projects (so we’re ready for the Quilt Show). Christmas and New Years’ festivities
just seem to get in the way….. So, bring all those UFO’s or PIGS to work on, and if you
need help with something, help will be available. It’s also an excellent opportunity to put tables
together, for sandwiching, pinning, or binding.

Q-TIPS
When you remove your holiday quilts from
storage, a round in the fluff cycle of the dryer
will make them look fresh and ready for hanging.
If a quilt displayed on the wall of your home
is always replaced by a holiday quilt during
the season, use an adjustable curtain rod so
you can compensate for the different sizes of
quilts without having to keep track of dowels.
Use knitters’ stitch holder pins to carry thread
that has been wound onto bobbins to save
space when traveling.
SCRAP BASKET QUOTES
Reprinted fabric panels, which look like
pieced quilts, come and go in popularity with
busy women and beginning quilters.
In pioneer days, women gave their rough
wool a gloss by rubbing it with a smooth
stone.
The advent of easily acquired permanent ink
provided quilters a fast way to record personal
messages.
