A one day practical hands-on course and lecture for experienced CDTs and Technicians on how to achieve natural
looking cosmetic dentures. With a specific emphasis on achieving predictable outcomes when matching gingival
shades with Enigma Colour Tones.
During the hands-on portion of the day participants will
fabricate a set of four custom shade guides (to individual
choice) using Enigma teeth and Enigma Colour Tones. To save
time on the day four sets of anterior teeth set in a pre waxed up
block will have been sent to each participant so that flasking
and boiling out can have been completed in their laboratories
before participants arrive for the course. These shade tabs will
be fabricated using Enigma Colour Tones and packed during
the day ready for final processing in the delegates own
laboratory.
The lecture will highlight the laboratory techniques behind a
true cosmetic denture. Ruth will apply Dr Besford's principle
of "prosthodontic privacy" to show how such dentures can
be produced so that a denture wearer who wishes it can
confidently expect to be seen as someone who has retained
their own teeth.
A manual will be provided detailing formulas for four basic
ethnic shades. Participants are also welcome to bring patient
photos of any ongoing cases to detail a custom formula.
This hands-on course and lecture is designed for experienced
technicians wanting to improve or refresh their skills and to be
able to offer cosmetic dentures to their clients. The introduction
of the new "Enigma Tooth Set-up Guide" as well as the
"Enigma Colour Tones Guide" act both as reminders for course
participants and a route to setting up and quality controlling the
"Enigma Cosmetic Denture"
as a system
within their
laboratories.

Aims, Objectives & Anticipated Outcomes
By the end of the lecture the participants should have a
better understanding of:
Applying Enigma Colour Tones to custom colour the denture
flanges of four separate gum colourations
Choosing and setting-up teeth for a natural cosmetic
appearance
Oral anatomy and gingival architecture
Planning tooth position and lip support
At the end of the course participants will take with them:
four sets of custom shade guides (flasked and ready for
processing)
Enigma Colour Tones Prescription Kit with simple templates
for custom colouring in their own clinic or laboratory
Set of seven colour pencils for the above

Enigma Tooth Set-up Guide Book

The course is limited in numbers to ensure one on one
time in the lab when preparing the shade guides.

Presenter
Ruth Bourke has over 30
years of experience and
knowledge as a dental
technician. Her career began
in England where she has held
positions at Guy's Hospital, the
Eastman Postgraduate Dental
Institute, The Royal London
Hospital and Manchester
Metropolitan University.
Ruth moved to the United States in 1996 to accept the post
of prosthetic and oral maxillofacial technician at the University
of Washington Dental School. From 2002 until 2004, Ruth
managed the removables department at a commercial dental
laboratory, and now owns and operates her own dental
laboratory in Redmond, Washington that specialises in
removable denture aesthetics and implants.
Ruth's early interest in removable prosthodontics flourished
under the guidance of John Besford. She continues to work
with him giving lectures and teaching hands-on seminars in
England, Europe and North America. In collaboration with Dr
Besford, Ruth provided consultation for Schottlander in the
development of the Award Winning Enigma Cosmetic Denture
System.
