Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the symposium, participants will
understand the psychosocial impact of cancer on patients
and families and will apply knowledge of psychosocial
care in relation to:
• Brain fog – how it impacts daily living, and cognitive
strategies to help combat it.
• The role of screening for distress and distress
management in patient care and well being.
• Sexual health issues for survivors - approaches for
assessment and intervention.
• The Pan-Canadian collaborative of psychosocial
professionals providing online support groups for
Canadians affected by cancer.
• Spiritual beliefs – how they are both challenged and
strengthened by a cancer diagnosis.
• The challenges encountered by cancer survivors in
transition from active treatment to their ‘new normal’.
