Sh ooting <strong>Activities</strong><br />

Cowboy Action Shoot<br />

So you want to shoot like a real cowboy? Then put on your holster<br />

<strong>and</strong> head for <strong>Lajitas</strong>’ Cowboy Action Shoot. You’ll get a chance to<br />

h<strong>and</strong>le a single action Colt 45, the pistol that was infamous for<br />

maintaining law <strong>and</strong> order <strong>and</strong> winning the west. And you’ll learn<br />

to fire the same short double barrel shotgun that stagecoach drivers<br />

used to fend off the b<strong>and</strong>its <strong>and</strong> gangs that roamed the open<br />

badl<strong>and</strong>s. You’ll finish off with the .45 caliber Winchester model 94,<br />

the favored saddle gun of cowboys, horseman <strong>and</strong> lawmen.<br />

Five St<strong>and</strong> Skeet Shoot<br />

<strong>Lajitas</strong> offers one of the finest five st<strong>and</strong>s in the West. This shotgun<br />

shooting game using sporting clays, allowing shooters of all abilities<br />

some of the most exciting target combinations available. Our course<br />

utilizes eight automatic traps to simulate game birds such as dove,<br />

quail <strong>and</strong> pheasant. There is even a “rabbit” bolting across the<br />

ground challenging you to take a shot. One round consists of 25<br />

shots, with groups of shots being taken from each shooting st<strong>and</strong>.<br />

One-on-one lessons are also available from one of our crack shots.<br />

You’ll be shooting like an expert in no time!<br />

Note: The Cowboy Action Shoot <strong>and</strong> the Five-St<strong>and</strong> uses real<br />

weapons. The ability to participate is based on the size of the<br />

shooter. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.<br />

Biking <strong>and</strong> Hiking<br />

Surrounded by over 1 million acres of conservation l<strong>and</strong>, <strong>Lajitas</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> the Big Bend region are ideal for hikers <strong>and</strong> mountain biking<br />

enthusiasts of all skills levels. For your own personal tour of our<br />

rugged 25,000 acres <strong>and</strong> Big Bend National Park, experienced bikers<br />

<strong>and</strong> hikers can arrange equipment rentals <strong>and</strong> guided tours through<br />

the <strong>Lajitas</strong> Activity Center.<br />

Mountain Biking<br />

<strong>Lajitas</strong> short ride is a two-hour energizing expedition lets you enjoy<br />

the beautiful countryside, so you can experience the fullness of this<br />

rough <strong>and</strong> tantalizing desert. For the more advanced or expert rider<br />

Take 4 to 6 hour <strong>Lajitas</strong> long ride (seasonal) to experience the best<br />

that the <strong>Lajitas</strong> terrain has to offer. The Big Bend National Park all<br />

day is an exhilarating ride into Big Bend National Park. Experience<br />

the Big Bend like you never have on the dirt roads <strong>and</strong> jeep trails of<br />

Big Bend National Park. A full lunch will be provided.<br />

Bike rentals<br />

If you have been in the area before or you would just like the roam<br />

<strong>and</strong> see the sights on your own, we can provide you with the<br />

transportation. Our Kona Mountain Bikes with front suspension<br />

will take you anywhere.<br />

Hiking<br />

Mile of trails w<strong>and</strong>er the hills above <strong>Lajitas</strong>. Enjoy the wonder of<br />

the area on foot on your own or on a guided hike with one of our<br />

knowledgeable trail guides. The Mesa de Anguila Day Hike goes up<br />

the saddle <strong>and</strong> on top of Mesa de Anguila in Big Bend National Park.<br />

The trail is moderately difficult, <strong>and</strong> lunch is provided.<br />

Short on time or don’t want to spend all day? The Chisos Mountain<br />

Tour is a great way to get an overview of the National Park. You will<br />

leave the desert floor <strong>and</strong> gradually move into a different ecosystem<br />

complete with pines, oaks, aspen <strong>and</strong> juniper.<br />

Wild West shootout, the activity professionals at <strong>Lajitas</strong>’<br />

own Outdoor Activity Center are ready to saddle you up<br />

for a day of adventure.<br />

Agave <strong>Spa</strong><br />

The Agave <strong>Spa</strong> is a little oasis in the “high desert.”<br />

The Agave <strong>Spa</strong> at <strong>Lajitas</strong> offers specialty massages <strong>and</strong><br />

hydrating facials that nourish <strong>and</strong> hydrate your skin. The<br />

Agave <strong>Spa</strong> restores your sense of well-being as you relax<br />

<strong>and</strong> rejuvenate your mind, body <strong>and</strong> spirit! The foundation<br />

of most of our treatments is derived from the aromatic<br />

<strong>and</strong> healing elements possessed here in the Chihuahuan<br />

Desert. Our treatments are designed for the purpose of<br />

relaxation, using herbal ingredients such as Agave, Rio<br />

Gr<strong>and</strong>e mud <strong>and</strong> stones native to the Big Bend.<br />

<strong>Lajitas</strong> guides are the best in the business. Based on decades of<br />

experience <strong>and</strong> keen knowledge of the relationship between horse<br />

<strong>and</strong> rider, we will custom design the perfect ride for your party no<br />

matter the size or experience. We can even set up one-of-a-kind<br />

events like cattle drives <strong>and</strong> aoudad hunts.<br />

Trail Rides<br />

This ride crosses the infamous Comanche Creek <strong>and</strong><br />

along historic trails to observe breathtaking views of<br />

the Mesa de Anguila including views of Mexico <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Lajitas</strong> Mesa ever present in the background. Half day<br />

rides, tailored for the guest, exploring several scenic<br />

areas of <strong>Lajitas</strong>. A true adventure guaranteed.<br />

Sunset & Sunrise Trail Rides<br />

These popular rides last for about an hour <strong>and</strong> a half.<br />

<strong>Guide</strong>s take guests around <strong>Lajitas</strong> Mesa for a most<br />

Ride out to our little piece of heaven known as<br />

Stargazer Mesa. Tucked away in the distant hills<br />

of <strong>Lajitas</strong>’ back country, we have found the perfect<br />

location to get away from it all. Join us after your<br />

trail ride to the mesa for an outst<strong>and</strong>ing meal prepared as it would be<br />

in the Old West, using Dutch ovens <strong>and</strong> hot coals. Vehicle transport or<br />

hay wagon available upon request.<br />

on-site for breakfast)<br />

Explore the Big Bend on one of our rough-<strong>and</strong>-tumble all-terrain<br />

vehicles. These ATVs can go anywhere <strong>and</strong> take you to remote<br />

places you might not ever see otherwise. Our guides are incredibly<br />

knowledgeable <strong>and</strong> transform the arid Chihuahuan Desert into a<br />

living, breathing thing of beauty.<br />

On your two-hour ride, you’ll explore the<br />

<strong>Lajitas</strong>’ property that shares a boundary<br />

with gorgeous Big Bend National Park. Our<br />

guides will take you all over the southern<br />

expanse of <strong>Lajitas</strong>, enjoying stunning<br />

views, remarkable rock formations, <strong>and</strong><br />

outst<strong>and</strong>ing flora <strong>and</strong> fauna. A fabulous<br />

way to spend a morning or afternoon.<br />

Jeep Tours<br />

Ride with <strong>Lajitas</strong> <strong>and</strong> Far Flung Outdoor Center in<br />

specially outfitted Jeeps designed to seat up to six adults. Our guides<br />

are highly knowledgeable <strong>and</strong> offer<br />

tours filled with geology, botany,<br />

biology, <strong>and</strong> history.<br />

The 3 hour Camp 360 tour takes<br />

guests up to North County Road to<br />

the top of a mountain offering a<br />

sweeping view in all directions. On<br />

the 2 hours Apache Trail tour you’ll<br />

walk in the footsteps of our native<br />

ancestors. The day long Ten bits<br />

tour includes a Big Bend National<br />

Park paleontologist as your<br />

interpretive guide as you w<strong>and</strong>er through l<strong>and</strong><br />

once roamed by dinosaurs. Take the ‘Round the Bend’ tour if<br />

you are a first-time visitor to Big Bend. On the Buena Suerte Tour, our<br />

guides will take you to the “boomtown” days of Big Bend’s past.<br />

River tours down the Rio Gr<strong>and</strong>e are the perfect way to see the Big<br />

Bend from a rarely seen perspective. Gently flowing down the river<br />

you will see the majesty of this unique l<strong>and</strong>sacpe rise above you.<br />

Half Day River Trips<br />

Join us for an excellent three mile adventure through the open<br />

mountainous country of Big Bend. This 2-1/2 hour trip is ideal for<br />

large groups, families <strong>and</strong> small children or guests who just want a<br />

short interpretative tour of the Rio Gr<strong>and</strong>e.<br />

River tours departs from the <strong>Lajitas</strong> Activity Center at 8:30 a.m. <strong>and</strong><br />

again at 2:30 p.m. (schedules may vary). We include a snack, guides,<br />

river equipment, waterproof bags <strong>and</strong> shuttle to <strong>and</strong> from <strong>Lajitas</strong>.<br />

4 person minimum.<br />

One-Day Canyon Trip<br />

This very popular trip travels through one of the several canyons of<br />

the Rio Gr<strong>and</strong>e. The choice of canyon is decided from day to day <strong>and</strong><br />

depends on the water level of the Rio Gr<strong>and</strong>e. The Canyons that are<br />

available are: the Colorado, Santa Elena or Temple. Also depending<br />

on the water levels; we decide whether to use the raft or a canoe.<br />

This trip departs from <strong>Lajitas</strong> at 7:30 a.m. <strong>and</strong> returns approximately<br />

at 5:30 p.m. daily. We include lunch, guides, river equipment, <strong>and</strong><br />

waterproof bags. 2 person minimum.<br />

Row after row of milo, millet, <strong>and</strong> sunflower stalks attract an<br />

abundance of white-wing dove to the 650-acre <strong>Lajitas</strong> Hunt Club. The<br />

Hunt Club includes a “luxury” bunkhouse with a full bar, a commercial<br />

kitchen, seating for up to 65, <strong>and</strong> a screened porch with shuffleboard.<br />

Dove Hunting<br />

Half-day hunts are either morning or evening <strong>and</strong> include beverages<br />

<strong>and</strong> a hunt attendant per hunter. Full-day hunts include beverages <strong>and</strong><br />

a hunt attendant per hunter. This attendant is always available to h<strong>and</strong><br />

you an ice-cold beverage. Dove hunts are available from September 1st<br />

through October 30th <strong>and</strong> December 26th through January 4th.<br />

Blue Quail Hunting in the Big Bend<br />

We can make your hunt the most successful <strong>and</strong> talked about yet!<br />

We have some of the finest guides, the greatest food <strong>and</strong> the prettiest<br />

Blue Quail that you can imagine. Hunts are available November<br />

through February.<br />

Aoudad Hunting<br />

<strong>Lajitas</strong> has the distinction of offering one of the only mounted Aoudad<br />

hunt in the U.S. On horseback you will climb to 5,000 feet on the<br />

rugged mountain trails of the <strong>Lajitas</strong> Mesa. You will set out alone on<br />

your three-day hunt with a wrangler <strong>and</strong> a licensed hunting guide.<br />

This exclusive hunting adventure is one of the last great mountain man<br />

hunts <strong>and</strong> will test your riding skills as well at your hunting ability.<br />

Hunters can take Aoudad <strong>and</strong> up to two Javelinas (quota for the year)<br />

during the three-day hunt.<br />

Note: To preserve the herd, hunts will be limited to one every two<br />

weeks. You will need a Texas state license to hunt.
