“It is a very exciting time to be involved in the wallpaper industry and we are very excited about
our new wallpaper collection! British manufacturers are helping turn designers’ ideas into reality,
continually experimenting with new inks and techniques. The relationships between engravers,
designers and manufacturers in the UK wallpaper industry are fantastic and together we can
achieve incredibly creative and beautiful results. I am particularly proud of our new wallpaper
collection and have really enjoyed using the brand new technique of beading for the first time.”
Wisteria
I have been photographing the trailing stems of the wisteria plant for many years now. Having one
I walk past every day to work has been an inspiring sight to behold and smell too! Here as I
wanted an engraved tonal look and I chose my old favorite, the Gravure printing process, to create
a look which is photographic and hand painted all at the same time! Stocked in five subtle colour
ways: Black and cream tones with a glint of silver for Shadow; cool aqua blues and gold’s for
Turquoise; shimmering silver with ethereal blue flowers for Silver/Blue; a satin background sets the
off white tones for Pearl, and pretty soft pinks, lilacs and gold’s give a modern twist to Lilac /Rose.
Dandy
Inspired by a beautiful single stem peony a friend gave me from their garden and a set of 1950’s
floral plates I’d picked up from a flea market, I knew I wanted to try and mix these two components
together to create a design that had a strong sense of identity without being overtly retro. Surface
printing is one of the oldest printing methods around and most closely resembles block printing –
the favorite method of William Morris. Surface printing results in a wonderful hand painterly feel to
the paper. It leaves ‘lips’ and ridges in its outlines and faint water colour like marks in the petals
where it is printed in its characteristic wet on wet process; adding a richness and depth to the
papers not achievable by any other form of mechanical production. This method of production
suited the feel of the Dandy design. The wallpaper comes in four striking colour combinations:
zingy Lemony yellow; turquoise and pink flowers for Blue Note; off whites make up a Natural Hint
and warm gold’s and soft oranges hold together Apricot Blush.
Lace
I have always been fascinated by lace and its ‘cutout’ effects, whether it’s on a fine silk or crisp
cotton Broderie Anglaise, its pattern that gives lace a three dimensional quality that makes it so
alluring. I wanted a modern interpretation of lace, one that would give a non-fussy and graphical
look but also keeping the crafted ‘hands on’ feel. Choosing surface printing again, with its
characteristic look of wood blocked and hand painting, Lace leaves an impression of the handcrafted
and the hand-made, which is very much in focus now. 5 sumptuous colourways: modern
white with soft camel for a graphical White, soft dove for Grey, Duck Egg and Tan are vibrant and
cool, Gun Metal adds a sophisticated glint and warmth to earthy tones and the black and white
Black Beaded Lace adds monotone chic and thanks to a brand new machine that allows tiny
beads resembling crystals to sit firmly to the paper we can have sparkling ‘lace’ on our walls (see
image above).
Notes to Editors
Dandy, Lace and Wisteria come in 10 meter rolls and are all 52cm wide.
