FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COCA-COLA ENTERPRISES’ SUSTAINABILITY REPORT REVEALS LOWEST EVER
WATER USAGE RATIO AND 15 PERCENT REDUCTION
IN OPERATIONAL CARBON FOOTPRINT
Company also introduces evolution in sustainability reporting model
LONDON, May 30, 2013 - Coca-Cola Enterprises (NYSE/Euronext Paris: CCE), which
manufactures, bottles and markets Coca-Cola products in Western Europe, today published
its 2012/2013 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CRS) report, demonstrating
significant achievements in carbon reduction, water usage and packaging recycling. The
company also introduced a new digital reporting model to engage a wider range of
audiences in its sustainability journey.
The new report details a number of key achievements towards the company’s sustainability
plan, including:
15% reduction in CCE’s operational carbon footprint
Lowest ever water usage ratio of 1.4 liters (the amount of water used to make one
liter of product)
15 million bottles collected at the London 2012 Olympic Games reprocessed and
returned to shelves within six weeks
$3.9m invested across CCE’s communities, including active and healthy living
programs
Portfolio of low and no-calorie drinks expanded through introduction of products with
stevia, a naturally-sourced, zero-calorie sweetener
100% of new coolers purchased HFC-free from January 2013
“We want to lead our industry in being a responsible and sustainable business, by delivering
today on the ambitious targets we have set and by leading change for a more sustainable
tomorrow,” said John F. Brock, chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud of our
continued progress but know there is more to do, working in partnership with all of our
stakeholders.”
CCE will publish its 2012/13 report entirely online. The company’s sustainability plan
commits to addressing impacts across the entire value chain and within its communities, as
well as within the four walls of its business. The new digital reporting model at
www.cokecce.com brings this approach to life, by inviting visitors to browse an animated
town where homes, streets and factories provide a range of entry points to CCE’s CRS
activities. Depending on stakeholders’ interest, they may explore a factory to understand
how the company reduces its operational carbon footprint or enter a home to see how CCE
understands and influences consumer recycling behavior in the household.
The digital model will also incorporate a series of detailed fact sheets which report progress
towards each target in CCE’s sustainability plan, aligned to GRI G3 guidelines. The report is
self-certified at GRI level B+ and a detailed GRI index is available at www.cokecce.com.
“We need to help people understand that our products are made locally and sustainably,”
said Joe Franses, director of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability. “This new reporting
approach will meet the needs of our technical expert audiences for detailed sustainability
disclosure, while also representing our commitments in a more accessible format. It will help
us engage the widest possible range of stakeholders in our sustainability journey, so they
can provide input on their expectations of us and feedback on our performance.”
