The Networking Committee, drawing upon its successes of last year, has put in place a plan for Calendar
Year 1999. In part, our planning has been based upon responses to the VWL survey “What Do you Think”
forwarded to members in the last quarter of 1998. We thank those who participated in this survey.
Many useful and innovative suggestions were provided and those suggestions not incorporated
into the 1999 plan will be considered for the year 2000 plan.
The table below sets out our proposed functions. Of course, the dates are only indicative and much will
depend upon venues and presenters’ availability.

We propose to invite womens organisations to
appropriate functions to promote “networking”.
For example, it is proposed that the Gallery visit
will again be held in conjunction with the Australian
Corporate Lawyers. We are conscious that from
time to time late notice is given of our functions
which impacts on members’ availability. A special
effort will be made this year to rectify that problem.
The first step is having a detailed plan as set out
above.
We will continue to have a mix of functions which
balance educational and social aspects. We also are
attempting to cater for our diverse membership by
having functions both in the evening and at
lunchtime. However, this year there is a bias
towards evening functions primarily due to the
nature of the functions planned.
We propose to forward another survey at the end of
the 1999 year and would appreciate input from as
many members as possible. After all, the
Networking Committee is a committee which aims
to provide both informative and enjoyable functions
for members to encourage closer relations both
between lawyers and between women lawyers and
other women’s groups. In many respects the
Networking Committee is only as good as the
suggestions it receives from the VWL membership.
This year the Networking Committee has a joint
chair. Please feel free to contact either of us with
any suggestions or queries. We look forward to
meeting you at our functions during 1999.
Further details of functions will be provided in
future editions of Portia as well as by way of
separate flyers from time to time.
