October 2011 will see a number of changes in
the legal sector. Although practices are used to
seeing change, having so many at once is a lot
to deal with, even for the most organised of
firms.
Although ABSs have been delayed, pending Parliamentary
approval, the new Code of Conduct and Outcomes
Focused Regulation have not. There are a number of
issues that practices need to consider and prepare for.
Our legal seminar will look at the impact of these
changes, and in particular the following:-
An introduction to the new SRA Accounts Rules, and
a look at how firms can design and implement new
procedures to deal with them effectively.
The new Code of Conduct, and in particular the
financial requirements and risk assessments that each
firm is required to undertake.
The impact of ABS. What are outsider investors
looking for? Does size matter? What makes a
successful merger? The benefits and drawbacks of
mergers.
The seminar is open to partners, members, directors and
practice managers.

Andy will explain the changes that have been made to the
Rules, in particular the amendment to the calculation of
client interest, and the policies that firms need to
introduce, as this has created the most debate since the
rule changes were announced.
5.00pm The new Code of Conduct

Jon will explain the key requirements within the new Code
of Conduct in relation to the financial requirements of each
practice going forward and the benefits that this can bring
to the practice in terms of managing their practice better.
5.20pm The impact of ABS

Trish will discuss our views on the introduction of ABS
and what outsider investors will be looking for in a legal
practice. Whether the answer is to get bigger and why
some mergers work and others do not.
