“Alan McKees work therefore presents itself as a new
phase in a long and distinguished development. One perceives
in it an intricate interweaving of ideas, as well as the
confident use of the latest digital imaging techniques.
Essentially what he does is to combine two apparently
contradictory strands of development. The actual structure
of his compositions is based on the work of artists such as
Jozef Albers, Max Bill and Ellsworth Kelly, but this is overlaid
with imagery taken directly from nature. In a certain
sense, a close parallel to the way they are composed can
be found in certain Japanese screens, which also combine
a dramatic abstract framework with exquisite details taken
directly from nature.”
—Edward Lucie-Smith, International art critic and writer,
Author of the comprehensive, Art Today
“Alan McKee’s work reveals a hidden world of the imagination,
something we delve into to discover a tactile beauty
that is analogous to and with nature’s ontological cycles of
life.”
—John Grande, International art writer
Author of Art & Nature

Artists’s Statement:
The Fragility of Nature and its extension of nature in the world of technology is at the centre
of my work. There has been a lot of press about scientific studies about nature but
only now do we have proof that “nature is disappearing before our very eyes”. Technology
has also allowed me in my process to manipulate nature on a cellular level dissecting it
and making it appear as a new form to the viewer and inspire the viewer to have a
“second look” and be more consciously aware of the value and beauty of nature.
