Proven InnovationGeneration After Generation02G e n e r a t i o n s o f I n n o v a t i o nGenerations Of InnovativePerformanceSince 1923, when Curtis, George and Ernest Baldwin introducedthe industry’s first self-propelled combine, the nameGLEANER® has stood for efficient operation, clean harvestingand innovative design. Not only did that first GLEANER introduceone-man harvesting, but it represented the first use of anauger instead of canvas drapers; a rasp-bar threshing cylinderinstead of a spike-tooth arrangement and a down-front cylinderthat put threshing closer to the crop. All were innovationsthat changed harvesting forever.Patent No. 1,702,323 wasn’t the Baldwin brothers’ first andonly idea, though. As early as 1911, Curtis Baldwin recognizedthe inefficiency of “transporting the field to the thresher,”instead of the other way around. His search for a bettersolution led to the Standing Grain Harvester, which was atrailblazer in the concept of field harvesting.GLEANER continued to pioneer new concepts throughmost of the 20th century—as other combine brands came andwent—introducing the country’s first standing corn combine in1930; the first combine with electro-hydraulic controls in 1972,the first and only combine with a transverse rotor in 1979 andthe industry’s first Class 7 combine and 12-row cornhead in 1980.H i s t o r y

While a lot has changed in four generations, one fact is astrue today as it was in 1923. GLEANER combines continue to leadthe field in capacity, threshing quality and ease of operation.Today’s Harvesting SolutionOver the past 80 years, we’ve learned one thing. There’salways room for improvement... even if you already build thebest combines that money can buy. For the better part of acentury, GLEANER engineers have combed over past, presentand competitive designs to improve upon the capacity, serviceability, safety and performance of its machines. Whether theinnovations come from new technology or customer requests,we’re always looking for ways to advance the quality ofthe product. One look at the GLEANER 5 Series combines, and you’llsurely agree that today’s GLEANER models are still aheadof their time. And now, with their distinctive graphics andComforTECH II cab, they’ve moved one more step ahead ofthe competition. But don’t just take our word for it. We inviteyou to take an even closer look at your local GLEANER dealer. Ifyou’ve blinked, your perception of GLEANER is already outdated.

B y I t s e l fGLEANER Takes Harvesting InA New DirectionWhen GLEANER engineers began looking at therotary concept back in the 1960s, they saw a problemwith conventional wisdom. Every rotary combine onthe market had the rotor oriented in line with theframe and feederhouse. That meant the crop had tochange directions as it entered and exited the rotor. Not much has changed on competitive models since. From the very beginning, though, GLEANER hada better idea! Why not turn the rotor crosswise, socrop material could follow a ribbon pattern from thefeederhouse to the straw spreader? For more than25 years, the unique GLEANER transverse rotor hasset the precedent in rotary combine design. We callit Natural Flow Processing. It’s just one of the uniquefeatures you’ll find on a totally unique combine.Center-Line DesignThe GLEANER center-line design, with its balancedweight distribution, provides improved performancein extreme conditions and reduces field compaction. The balanced design, combined with heavy-duty axles, also allows GLEANER to carry some of the largest graintanks in the industry—245 bushels on the R55, 300bushels on the R65 and 330 bushels on the R75.One-Piece FrameAll GLEANER combines start out on a one-piece,all-welded mainframe for greater strength andreduced maintenance. The sturdy mainframe helpskeep shafts, bearings and sprockets in truealignment, even on the toughest terrain.Beauty Is More Than Skin DeepThe silver metallic, high-gloss urethane coatingthat covers every GLEANER combine is a thing ofbeauty on its own. But the galvanized steel that liesunderneath is even more appealing. Impervious torust, for a lifetime of durability, galvanized steel hasbeen a GLEANER trademark since 1923.A Choice Of Unloading AugersGLEANER is the only combine brand on themarket that offers you a choice of unloading augersto match your harvesting style. Standard on all modelsis a swivel-style system, featuring a 12-inch diameterunloading tube. However, options on the R65 andR75 include a 14-inch diameter unloading tube; a longspout option, with its additional 14 inches of reach, and a turret style unloading system that allowson-the-go unloading on uneven terrain or into hightransport vehicles.03 04 05 06G e n e r a t i o n s o f I n n o v a t i o n

Maintenance M a d e S i m p l e5 06 07 08G e n e r a t i o n s o f I n n o v a t i o nEasy Servicing Is Part OfThe DesignAsk any second or third generation GLEANERowners why they prefer silver combines and theywill probably list the ease of service, adjustmentand maintenance among the reasons. For more than four generations, GLEANERcombine engineers have put simple adjustmentand fundamental maintenance at the top oftheir design list. Like you, they know that whenyou maximize uptime and minimize daily service,it translates into greater productivity.Uptime involves more than just easy maintenance, however. It means quick changeoversfrom one crop to the next... fast and easy headerchangeover... and reliability features that headoff downtime before it occurs.Just as auto field are won or lost by theamount of time in the pits, so have crops beensaved or lost to the weather by time in the shop.GLEANER gets you back in the field quicker.Uptime Is Built Into The DesignFrom the header to the spreader, GLEANERcombines are designed for reliability. We startedwith straight-through drives that are accessibleon the outside of the frame for ease of serviceand maintenance. Then we added shafts thatare ground for a tight tolerance fit to bearings,maintenance-free belt idlers, O-ring roller chaindrives for less maintenance and Kevlar reinforcedbelts for added strength.Gas-Charged Shield SpringsLarge side shields with gas-charged assistsprings provide easy access to machine drivecomponents for quick maintenance. One ofthe protective shields on the right side of themachine drops down to become a step forbetter access.Fast And Easy LubricationFor operator convenience, daily and weeklylubrication points are marked and highlightedon the machine for easy location—80% of themare accessible from ground level. Lube point hoseextensions are provided for hard-to-reach locations.Easy Engine AccessA large fold-down ladder leads to anenclosed engine compartment that is largeenough for you to walk around the engine.Components are equally accessible for quickand simple servicing, including the batteries, which are located near the rotary airintake screen.Outstanding Crop VersatilityYou won’t find another combine that goesfrom one crop to another as easily as a GLEANER5 Series rotary combine. In many cases, theadjustments can be made right from the cab bychanging functions such as rotor speed, the concavesetting or the air control choke. If additionalcylinder or concave modifications are required, you’ll find easy access through doors in the graintank and the engine compartment.

A false floor, located behind the frontdrum, extends to the rear of the feed housingto reduce the potential for chain jumping, wrappingand plugging. Of course, a hydraulicallydriven feed reverser is still standard equipment.A B CKLIJHMTwo-Stage Gathering Chain SystemThe aggressive gathering system uses twoseparate chains to move the crop quickly andefficiently. The front chain permits full headerflotation, while the rear chain maintains aconstant angle, feeding the crop in a straightline to the concave and cylinder.NQ

Genuine IntelligenceTake The Guesswork Out OfHarvestingAs reliable and efficient as GLEANER 5 Seriescombines are, there are decisions and adjustmentsthat can only be made by an informed operator. The key, of course, is keeping the operator completelyinformed, which was the design focus ofthe unique “Heads Up TM ” and A-post monitoringsystem.Based on state-of-the-art CANBus electronics, the system incorporates a series of microprocessorsfor engine and shaft monitoring, as well asfunctions for system diagnostics, interlock andenvironmental control. Most importantly, allmachine functions can be monitored while youkeep an eye on incoming crop.Quickly Track Harvesting FunctionsGLEANER’s unique “Heads Up” monitorhelps you spot problems before they become athreat to your investment or your productivity. An easy-to-read combine silhouette allows theoperator to monitor, both visually and audibly, virtually all combine operations, including thespeed of all vital-role drive shafts. The touch ofone button permits you to scroll through thespeed of the rear feed conveyor, clean grainelevator, return elevator, impeller/chopper,spreader, distribution augers, rotor, shoe, reel orengine. In addition to shaft monitoring, the“Heads Up” display provides the operator withall pertinent data on the engine, fuel level, header height, ground speed, unloader augerposition, inside and outside temperature andconcave position, as well as valuable harvestinformation, like distance covered, acrescovered and crop moisture level.Redundancy Can Be A Good ThingOne look at the new A-post monitoringsystem and we think you’ll agree repetition canbe good for productivity and convenience. Sure, you’ll find the fuel level, engine oil pressure andengine temperature displayed on the “Heads Up”monitor. But we put analog gauges on theA-post as well, just to make it easier for theoperator. You’ll also find a two-line digital displaymounted at eye level. The first line offers thechoice of rotor speed or engine speed, while thesecond line can be toggled, via the button on thehydro handle, through a choice of three differentfunctions. They include rotor or engine speed(whichever one is not chosen for the first line),vehicle ground speed, and your choice of onemore function from the “Heads Up” monitor. You decide which one is most important foreye-level viewing.Pacer Grain MonitorA grain monitor should be easy to read ifit’s going to be useful. The redesignedGLEANER Pacer monitor system is both simpleto useand effective! A series of nine LED readouts—fivegreen lights that verify normal operation, threeamber lights that indicate incremental losslevels, and one red light for unacceptable losses—letyou know at a glance how efficientlythe machine is operating. All you have to do is select the seed sizeto be harvested, decide where you want lossinformation to be gathered (rotor, shoe or combinedreadings) and dial in the desired amountof sensitivity. That’s it! You can concentrate onthe job at hand, knowing that you’re alwaysgetting peak performance.13 14 15 16G e n e r a t i o n s o f I n n o v a t i o nCab Monitoring/Controls

5 16 17 18G e n e r a t i o n s o f I n n o v a t i o nThe World Leader In PrecisionAgricultureA brochure for the 1929 GLEANER combineoffered as optional equipment a Hart CombineRegister to “register absolutely accurate everybushel of grain passing through the combine.”You might call it the Baldwin brothers’ versionof the yield monitor. As advanced as that concept was for its time, things have come a long way since. Today, theAGCO FIELDSTAR® Precision Agriculture Systemleads the industry in technology, offering featuresthat aren’t even available on competitive units.Centered around our exclusive DataTOUCHCommand Center, the FIELDSTAR system givesyou the potential to collect information, analyzethe data and implement all your decisions withvariable-rate or site-specific technology (i.e. planting, seeding, spraying, fertilizing, tilling, etc.).FIELDSTAR isn’t any newcomer on the scene, either. Years before the system was brought toNorth America, AGCO was marketing precisionagriculture systems in Europe and helpingproducers map their way to higher yields andimproved profits.Simplicity, Flexibility, CompatibilityAll GLEANER Series 5 combines are alreadywired for easy installation of the FIELDSTARprecision agriculture system---including the “WideArea Augmentation System” (WAAS) DifferentialGlobal Positioning System (DGPS), new high performanceYield Sensor II and moisture sensor---available factory or field-installed. Once installed,it's simple to learn, calibrate and use; yet, highlyflexible to your needsBecause the FIELDSTAR interface card isadded to the highly advanced CAN-Bus system, awide variety of harvest and combine informationis available on one easy-to-read screen. With atouch of the DataTOUCH terminal, you can view,The Sky is the Limitrecord and analyze everything from yield (wetor dry basis), moisture content, ground speedand grain tank volume to fuel consumption rate, engine system fluid temperatures and unloadevents. In addition, recommended crop settingsare stored right in the DataTOUCH CommandCenter for quick crop changeovers.FIELDSTAR also allows you to easily transferor use the information you gather in the field.Print it on the optional in-cab printer, or downloadit onto a PCMCIA data card and transfer itto your office computer using the data cardreader included in the FIELDSTAR Office Package. The current Version 4.02 even gives users theoption of a USB port data card reader, alongwith improved performance with Windows 2000,NT, XP Pro and XP Home.DataTOUCH Puts You In TouchThe heart of the FIELDSTAR system is theDataTOUCH Command Center—the mostadvanced, state-of-the-art terminal on themarket today. The touch-sensitive technologyputs you in command of programming, GPSsetup and field data collection with the touchof a fingertip.Best of all, one DataTOUCH terminal—along with the WAAS DGPS combination antenna/receiver—caneasily go from your combineto your tractor to your sprayer for customapplications on the next crop.Take Farm Management Full-CirclePrecision agriculture isn’t limited to yieldmapping during harvest. It’s a year-aroundopportunity to manage your farm for maximumprofitability. The FIELDSTAR yield-monitoring systemallows growers to gather site-specific data as thecombine moves through the field. Then, recordand map what you need—yields, crop moisture, altitude, engine functions—to improve cropmanagement. Vital records on special crop information, such as food-grade crops, biotech cropsand differing hybrids can also be mapped.Throughout the year, FIELDSTAR lets youincorporate additional data from other sources, including soil sampling, crop consultants andcrop-input dealers to produce application plans.FIELDSTAR with DGPS makes site-specific farminga reality, with variable-rate seeding, sitespecifictillage, field drainage and site-specific/variable-rate crop input applications. Thanks toFIELDSTAR’s unique “virtual implement” feature, you can even perform certain variable-rate operations, such as spreading material, using implementswithout variable-rate controller technology. The resulting as-applied maps can help youfind still more efficiency and document yourgood environmental practices.Unmatched Building BlocksThe field data you gather and analyze withFIELDSTAR can be as complex or as simple as youwant it to be. It all starts with a field map.Unlike other systems, though, FIELDSTAR letsyou create your choice of color yield maps, bargraphs, pie charts and field profit maps to betteranalyze the data. Crop yields can also be displayedin percentage terms, as opposed to yield. As a result, you can better determine whether aproblem is inherent to a particular year’s crop ora sign of a bigger problem.A gross margin mapping function allowsyou to enter cost data input to calculate fieldprofitability. It’s just one more way GLEANERhelps you get the most out of every field.

3000 Hugger Header 4000 Pickup Header 5100 Draper HeaderAhead of the Field in header choices5 18 17 18G e n e r a t i o n s o f I n n o v a t i o nGLEANER® Offers A Header For Every CropAnd ConditionFrom Saskatchewan to Florida, California tothe Carolinas, South Africa to Australia, GLEANERcombines are at home in any crop. One reasonis the diversity of the combine itself. The otheris the wide selection of headers that carry theGLEANER name. There truly is a header for everycrop, condition and farming practice.Model 3000 HUGGER® HeadsFor years, the name HUGGER has beensynonymous with performance in the world’scornfields. Whether the crop is wet or dry, standingor leaning, you’ll benefit from HUGGER’s 21.5-degree, low-profile entry angle and polyethylenedividers that easily slide under the stalks.HUGGER’s design is based on a heavy-duty,all-welded frame that ensures drive shaft androw unit alignment. In addition, each row unitis a self-contained, modular design with its ownrugged gearbox. Meanwhile, fluted snappingrolls have six reversible edges and replaceableflutes to aggressively guide the stalk downward. To further improve operator efficiency, cabadjusted,single-point stripper plate adjustmentis standard on all models. The operator can nowmake on-the-go stripper plate adjustments forimproved feeding and increased performance.Available in 4-row (38-inch), 6-row (30- and36-inch), 8-row (30-, 36- and 38-inch) and 12-row (20-, 22- and 30-inch) configurations, theHUGGER line-up meets farmers’ demands.Model 4000 Pickup HeaderDesigned to a new level of performance andreliability, the Model 4000 pickup header can beequipped with either a Swathmaster or Rakeuptype pickup attachment. The Swathmasterpickup features a conventional design withplastic teeth and offers excellent performance inany swathed crop. For both normal and adverseconditions, GLEANER offers the Rake-Up pickup.Teeth mounted on tough aluminum finger barswork at an angle, like a side-delivery rake on itsside, to sweep windrows clean.Available in 12- and 14-foot sizes, both theSwathmaster pick-up and the Rake-Up pickupfeature an ultra-float suspension system andlarge 18 X 8.5 flotation tires. Finally, both pickupoptions feature a hydraulically actuated windguardand crop hold-down to improve feedingand reduce crop rolling.Model 5100 Draper HeaderFor expansive fields of small grain, there’snothing like a Model 5100 draper header. Choosefrom 25-, 30- and 36-foot cutting widths tomatch your terrain, crop and combine size. All three sizes feature a hydraulic-drivenSchumacher (SCH) epicyclic gear drive thatmoves the knife at 1,200 strokes per minute.Model 5100 draper headers also come with achoice of universal U2 pickup or HCC polytinepickup reel to match your specific harvestingconditions. Either way, you benefit from hydraulicreel drive that offers precise fingertip control ofreel speed compared to ground speed. Both left and right draper assemblies havetheir own hydraulic drive motors, effectivelydelivering the crop to a 60-inch center feeddraper. At that point, a notched feed augersmoothly combs incoming material into thecombine’s feeding system. Coil springs on theheader mounting kit provide 5 to 6 degrees oflateral float and 8” vertical float, independent ofthe combine, allowing the header to follow thecontours of the ground.Model 6000 Stripper HeaderWith the Model 6000 stripper header, youdon’t have to wait for extended dry times forwet straw or weedy conditions. Utilizing a 23.9-inch rotating drum with six rows of comb-likeelements, the 6000 header literally strips grainheads from the crop, leaving the stalks in the field. The Model 6000 offers benefits that gobeyond its ability to extend the harvest window.Headers

6000 Stripper Header 7000 Rigid Header 8000 Flex HeaderBecause less material-other-than-grain (MOG)passes through the machine, combine speedand capacity are increased. The improved “post harvest conditions” canalso help you meet double cropping demandsor regulations concerning soil erosion. Standingstubble can be used as a natural snow fence tocapture moisture for increased yields next year....or the stubble can be treated as a valuablestraw crop.Available in 20-, 22.5- and 25-foot widths, theModel 6000 Series has a three-speed gearboxto handle a variety of crops, harvest conditionsand combines.Model 7000 Rigid HeadersFrom the cutterbar to the auger, Model7000 rigid headers are designed to providea smooth, even flow of crop material to thefeederhouse.Additional productivity features that havemade GLEANER rigid headers the choice offarmers and custom harvesters alike include:• Standard 38-inch-diameter, 5-bat metalreel with 18-gauge galvanized reel endsupports combines strength with smoothcrop feeding.• Crop-hungry 30” diameter auger with 7”flighting prevents bunching of materialon the cutterbar for improved harvest rateand less crop loss.• Curved reel arms, with fine reel heightadjustment, are standard on all sizes.Powered (electrical) fore/aft reel adjustmentallows the operator to adapt tovarying harvesting conditions, while thecurved arms maintain the correct reel-tocutterbarprofile. The result is improvedfeeding, performance and capacity.Model 8000 Flex HeadersAvailable in 16-, 18-, 20-, 25- and 30-foot sizes, the Model 8000 Flexible header can be tailoredto meet your exact needs. Start with your choiceof HCC level II or U2 (Universal) style pickupreels. Then add your choice of two types of sickles—standardor SCH (Schumacher). Unlike thestandard bolted, the sections on the SCH sickleare bolted to the bar in an alternating fashion.Meanwhile, Model 8000 Flex headerscome with a broad list of standard features thatimprove productivity and harvesting efficiency:• Large 30” diameter conveyor auger with27-inch pitch flighting moves the crop tothe feeding system in a smooth, uniformmanner for less crop loss.• Curved reel arms, with fine reel heightadjustment, are standard on all sizes.Powered (electrical) fore/aft reel adjustmentallows the operator to adapt to varyingharvesting conditions, while the curvedarms maintain the correct reel-to-cutterbarprofile.• A one-piece, stainless-steel feather sheetprovides a rust-free, uninterrupted surfacefor smooth crop flow.• The hydraulic reel drive system includesan automatic speed control feature thatadjusts reel speed in relation to groundspeed.17 18 19 20G e n e r a t i o n s o f I n n o v a t i o n

Quality and Efficiency start up front9 20G e n e r a t i o n s o f I n n o v a t i o nAdvanced Header Control FeaturesOne of the primary goals the Baldwin brothershad in 1923 was taking an efficient thresherto the crop, in effect, making the machine selffeeding.Today, crop feeding is still a major focus ofGLEANER engineering. After all, the efficiencyof the combine is only as good as the ability togather crop material into the feederhouse. That’s why GLEANER gives you features likeautomatic header height control and auto reelspeed as standard equipment. We know thatharvest productivity starts up front.Fast Header ChangesFew producers grow just one crop thesedays... or use just one header during the harvestseason. So quick and easy header hookup is vitalto productivity... not to mention the schedule.GLEANER answers the call with a unique onepointlatch system that makes header changeovera snap. PTO-style shaft couplers, combined witha simple hydraulic hookup and a quick-attachelectrical connector, help complete the taskin record time, without mistakes or spilled oil.Within minutes, you’re harvesting a new cropin a new field.Auto Reel SpeedControlled from the armrest-mountedconsole, the automatic reel speed functioncommands the hydraulically driven reel to speedup or slow down as ground speed changes. Ofcourse, reel speed can also be controlled manuallyto match varying crop and field conditions.Automatic Header Height ControlIn essence, the name says it all. The automaticheader height control system provides infiniteheight variability when used in conjunctionwith the Model 8000 flex headers, as well asany Model 7000 rigid header or Model 3000HUGGER corn head equipped with the optionalsensing rods. When in use, sensors signal thehydraulic system to automatically raise andlower the header to maintain the cutterbaror row dividers at a preset distance from theground. The system is also designed to work inconjunction with the optional SmarTrac lateraltilt mechanism.Return To Cut ControlThe automatic header height control systemincludes a feederhouse position controlfunction, generally referred to as “return to cut,”as standard equipment on GLEANER 5 Seriescombines. This feature automatically returnsthe feederhouse to a preset position each timethe header is raised for transport or turning, and returned to the original cutting position. We don’t have to tell you what that featurealone can do for fatigue reduction and improvedperformance.SmarTrac LTM OptionNot everyone has the luxury of farmingflat land. That’s why GLEANER developed theSmarTrac TM LTM (lateral tilt mechanism) systemin the first place. Choose manual operation via aswitch on the hydro handle or select theautomatic mode to automatically follow groundcontours that slope up to four degrees in eachdirection. All controls are already integrated into thecontrol console and hydro handle, without theneed for additional boxes or switches. In addition, the Model 8000 flex headers require noadditional modification to fit the system. Onlythe Model 7000 rigid grain headers and Model3000 Hugger corn heads require the addition ofmechanical sensor rods.Regardless of which header you use, you’llappreciate the automatic self-leveling featurethat returns the cutterbar or corn head to a levelposition each time it is raised to the transportposition.
