Day 10: Mweka - Arusha (B, L, D)Approximately 10 km, 6.2 miOn the final day of the journey, wewill descend from Mweka camp to thebase. The descent to the gate will takeapproximately 5 hours and we shouldarrive before noon. Upon arrival at thegate, we will be rewarded with a certificateattesting to our success at climbing Mt.Kilimanjaro. Depending on arrival timeat the gate, we will have a picnic lunch orenjoy lunch at the lodge.This afternoon, we will transfer to Arushaand enjoy the rest of the afternoonat leisure.Day 11: Arusha - Manyara(B, L, D)This morning, we will drive to Manyara(135 km – 2.30 hrs) for a game drivethrough the National Park. Stretchingfor 50km along the base of the rusty-gold600-meter high Rift Valley escarpment,Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with asetting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as“the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. Thecompact game-viewing circuit throughManyara offers a virtual microcosm of theTanzanian safari experience.Upon arrival this morning, you have theoption to participate in the followingoptional activity:Optional Activity: Village Walk toMto Wa Mbu(Approximately 2.5 to 3 hours)Catch a rare glimpse of some of thefascinating and different cultures of EastAfrica on this optional Village Walk atMto Wa Mbu. The Village of Mto Wa Mbuon the shores of Lake Manyara is a livingexample of one of the richest linguisticmixes in Africa. Home to over 90 tribes,Mto Wa Mbu is quite possibly the onlyplace where you can hear Bantu, Nilotic,Khoisan and Cushitic accents spoken inthe same marketplace together with thediverse lifestyles and heritage that comeswith these people.Zebras; Ngorongoro Crater, TanzaniaWhat to expect: A real cultural experience,feeling the heartbeat of an authenticAfrican village with every step you take.You will encounter many locals and sensethe existence of their being. A leisurelystroll with a village guide will take youthrough local homes, farmlands, residentbars, a kindergarten and a church. A wide variety oflocal fruits will be presented to you to tasteand appreciate.Included in this optional tour is aprivate local guide, round trip transport,a substantial village contribution,contact fees to people visited, all fruits,kindergarten contribution and TanzanianVillage Project support.In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic lunchbefore continuing the drive to the lodge(30 km – 40 min).Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater(B, L, D)After breakfast this morning, we will driveto the Ngorongoro crater and immediatelyproceed to the crater floor to enjoy apicnic lunch. The floor of the crater isonly 100 sq miles but is home to around30,000 animals with a high concentrationof predators and some of the finest blackmaneLions in Africa. Rhino can be seenwith calves at heel. Eland and waterbuckappear not to notice the human visitors,enabling photographers to shoot at ease.On the lake in the middle of the Crater, wemay see thousands of flamingos flutteringand shimmering like a pink heat haze.Zebra and wildebeest account for almosthalf the animals while gazelle, buffalo,eland, hartebeest and wart hog can alsobe seen. This afternoon, we will returnto our lodge. In route, we will have theopportunity to visit a Maasai Village.Day 13: Ngorongoro - Tarangire(B, L, D)This morning, we will drive to TarangireNational Park where we will enjoy aneventful morning and afternoon of gamedrives (140 km – 2.30 hrs). TarangireNational Park derives its name fromthe Tarangire River that rises in thehighlands of central Tanzania and windsits way through the game sanctuary. Theriver irresistibly lures the herds of plainsmigrants from the parched surroundingarea to its shrunken, but permanent,brackish waters during the dry season.The animals come by thousands from asfar north as the shores of Lake Natron,dramatically swelling the residentpopulation with wildebeest, zebra, eland,elephant, hartebeest, buffalo and fringeearedOryx. As the rainless days continuethe Tarangire’s pools are clotted withthirsty migrants, and elephants beginto dig for underground streams in thedry riverbed.We will return to our lodge for a briefrespite and lunch before embarking onanother afternoon game drive through theNational Park.2012-2013 OI Travel Collection Mt.
