On a different note, I’d like to say a few goodbyes, whichare bittersweet. Our best wishes go out to Professor Mike Streib,who built our enormously successful Trial Advocacy program.Mike officially retired this semester, but we plan to twist his armand keep him involved in our program as long as we can! Ourcongratulations to Professor Amelia Joiner, director of the TrialAdvocacy program, as she leaves for sunny Florida to serve asprofessor of legal skills and trial advocacy at Stetson Law School,the No. 1 trial advocacy program in the United States. We areproud of Amelia and all that she has accomplished for DuquesneSchool of Law and our students. We are doubly proud that aDuquesne alumna will be helping to run the top program inthe country! Our alumnus Pete Giglione, L´00, who has servedas an adjunct professor and has been actively involved in ourTrial Advocacy program for over a decade, will become thenew coordinator of this program, assisted by faculty advisersProfessor Wesley Oliver and Professor Stephen Baicker-McKee.My thanks to all of them: I know that our great tradition as atrial advocacy powerhouse is in good hands.After five years of tireless service in the deans’ office,Associate Dean Nancy Perkins is shifting more of her time toteaching and scholarship. She will continue to serve as associatedean of academic affairs; while she is on sabbatical in thefall, Professor Bruce Ledewitz will hold this position. In themeantime, I’ve appointed Professor Richard Gaffney to serveas acting associate dean for administration; he will occupy theoffice across from me on the fourth floor and will coordinatemuch of the day-to-day administrative work. My thanks toNancy, Bruce and Richard for their dedicated service to the LawSchool. It is because of the willingness of them, and other facultycolleagues, to go above and beyond their ordinary duties that theLaw School has thrived in recent years.Finally, I am honored to announce that—following aprocess that included input from students, faculty and alumni—President Charles Dougherty has appointed me to a second termas dean of the School of Law. My thanks to Professor MarthaJordan, who chaired the reappointment committee, and to all ofmy faculty colleagues, students and alumni friends who said nicethings on my behalf. There is no greater privilege, in my view,than to serve as dean of this special Law School.
