CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE SINCE 1984Analytical Reference Materials International’s (ARMI) primary objective hasbeen to develop and implement an industry acceptable system for the characterizationand certification of metal alloy materials. The resulting Certified Reference Materials(CRMs) afford the scientific community an unequivocal level of confidence.Equally important is our desire that the final certified results be traceable to nationaland/or international certifying bodies with emphasis on our own National Instituteof Standards & Technology (NIST).In the beginning, the Company purchased metal certified materials from recognizedcertifying bodies and produced what is now known the world over as the “thin X-raydisk” specific to X-ray analytical procedures. Because of the success of the thin X-ray disks during the late 1980s, demand dramatically increased for more of a varietyof products to address the needs of all analytical techniques. The Company reached apoint where it became obvious that its dependence on others to supply materials anddata limited its ability to meet the market’s existing and future needs. Therefore, in1989 the ARMI Inter-Laboratory Analysis Program (ILAP) was formed. The ILAP originated and remains today as the only totally voluntary organizationin private industry dedicated to the production and development of qualityCRMs. ILAP is the classic example of industry working together for a commongoal. The membership now consists of experts from over 70 laboratories representingmajor metal producers, commercial laboratories, aerospace, and general industryfrom the US, Canada and other countries in Europe and Asia. The group is comprisedof wonderfully dedicated people who are experts in the analysis of metals andmetal alloys.Today ARMI’s inventory consists of more than 600 different CRMs that include carbonsteels, low alloy steels, stainless and high temperature steels, nickel, cobalt, copper, aluminum, titanium, and hydrocarbon based materials. ARMI’s CRMs (IARMs)can be found in the application laboratories of most of the major instrument manufacturersaround the world. Finally, one of the major factors contributing to the success of the ARMI/ILAP programover the years has been “you”, the analytical consumer. You have voiced youropinions as well as your needs. The personnel at ARMI, as well as the ILAP members, wish to sincerely thank you for your continued suggestions and support and offerour pledge to enthusiastically make every effort possible to respond to yourneeds in the years to come.
