Thislovely 150 Sport in gleaming nero/rosso paintwork is pretty enough tobe kept in one’s living room. Very competently restored some yearsago, it is in original trim and should be a simple job to return to theroad, though buyers should satisfy themselves as to its mechanicalcondition before bidding. Sold strictly as viewed, it is offered with a1958 AC d’Italia document.£1,800 - 2,500€2,300 - 3,200224 N1959 Garelli 70cc ‘70’Frame no. 213253Engine no. 1122753In post-war years, the Italian Garelli concern concentrated on theirbest-selling ‘Mosquito’ cyclemotor unit, only returning to 50cc and70cc motorcycles in the 1950s. Their output was, as one might expectfrom Italy, beautifully styled, made and presented. This example ofthe ‘70’ is in excellent, original, rosso paintwork and to cataloguespecification, and must appeal to any enthusiast for these prettymachines with racer appeal, Said by the vendor to start ‘first kick’ andto run very well, the little Garelli has an AC d’Italia PRA registrationdocument giving full details – in Italian, of course. Amake noted in Italy for the excellence of its finish and specification, Mi-Val also produced a variant of the Messerschmitt three-wheeler. Thissporting, race-styled two-stroke is in its very well-preserved originalfinish and believed to be to original specification, according to thevendor. A wholly stylish machine, it will appeal to enthusiasts for Italianlightweights and is sold strictly as viewed. Buyers should ascertain itssuitability and mechanical condition prior to bidding. Of these, the first choice hasto be their 200cc, push-rod twin which appeared in the late ‘fifties invarious stylings. Based around a composite tube and pressing frame, the engine was in unit with the four-speed transmission and produceda smooth 11bhp. This example is in carefully preserved, rather than rebuiltcondition. The 1960s saw their greatestsuccess in this competitive field. The Gilera ‘125’ on sale here is inoriginal, if somewhat faded, condition, as if it were straight from anItalian street. The machine is believed mostly complete and followingthe usual re-commissioning checks and some cosmetic attention, this project should result in a nice lightweight for little money. One of their best-knownmachines was this, a variety of the small-wheeled but otherwise fullsizemotorcycle also made by other factories such as MV Agusta. Theearly, first-series 125, offered here is today a rare bird for the simplereason that, as is their nature, utility motorcycles were hard-used, untilreplaced or scrapped. In believed complete and original condition, thisshould be an easy re-commission, particularly suitable for the shorterrider. Sold strictly as viewed, buyers should satisfy themselves as tothe mechanical condition of this interesting ISO. Those of Benelli were noted,as always, for their style and lively performance. With 15,000 or soKm. recorded, this is admittedly a rather neglected, though apparentlycomplete example which should provide a good basis for restorationfor any enthusiast of Italian machines at little cost. No further detailswere available at the time of cataloguing. Essentially a one-design firm, they merged withBenelli in 1962 and became a brand, with their machines beingvariants of the contemporary Benellis. The post-war market for sub-50cc mopeds soon produced more exciting designs for a moreyouthful market and this little MotoBi, superbly styled in the fashion ofa twin-shock moto-cross bike of the period, is no exception. In originaland well-preserved condition, it will make a lovely Christmas presentfor a young enthusiast.
