2461974 Kawasaki 498cc Mach III (H1)Registration no. KEH 991NFrame no. H1F-40535Engine no. KAE 110553From the Z1 to the ZX10R, Kawasaki has long enjoyed a reputationfor building uncompromising - often outrageous - high performancemotorcycles. However, the machine that started it all was not a fourstrokelike the forgoing but a two-stroke – the awesome, legendary‘Mach III’ (H1). Light weight combined with a peaky 60bhp andindifferent handling made the two-stroke triple an exciting machine toride but one that nevertheless had the legs of just about everythingunder 750cc when launched in 1968. The H1 triple was regularlyrevised and updated, gaining a front disc brake, revised steeringgeometry and rubber engine mounts among other changes beforeproduction ceased in 1976, by which time it had become the KH500.This Mach III has been in the current owner’s hands since March2010 and benefits from a repaint and re-commissioning, the enginenot requiring any work. Currently displaying a total of 17,674 mileson the odometer, the machine comes with sundry invoices, currentV5C document and a quantity of old MoT certificates, the most recentof which expired in March 2014. The original exhaust system is aparticularly noteworthy feature.£6,000 - 7,000€7,600 - 8,9002471978 Kawasaki Z1000 A2Registration no. APW 985SFrame no. KZT00A-519511Engine no. KZT00AE-073207The first major revision of Kawasaki’s trend-setting Z1/Z900 arrivedfor 1977 in the form of the Z1000, which, as its name suggests, wasa bored-out version of the original double-overhead-cam four. Powerwent up - marginally - to 83bhp while there was more torque deliveredfurther down the rev range than before. Testing the new Z1000 inFebruary 1977, Bike magazine had to contend with a wet track butnevertheless recorded a 12.76-second standing quarter mile time, despite an enforced half-throttle take-off, and a staggering terminalvelocity of 117mph with rider normally seated! A much-revised framemeant that the Z1000 had lost some of its predecessors’ waywardhandling while remaining every bit as refined. Sold new abroad, almost certainly in the USA, this Z1000 A2 model was first registeredin the UK in 1997 and is currently in the hands of only its third ownerin this country. ‘APW 985S’ has covered only some 200 miles sinceits acquisition by the vendor in 2009 and currently displays a totalof 23,607 miles on the odometer. We are advised that the machinebenefits from Dream Machine paintwork and has required no workother than re-commissioning. It was last taxed for the road in 2010.Accompanying paperwork consists of MoT to May 2015, V5Cdocument and a quantity of expired MoT certificates. An owner’smanual is included in the sale.£4,000 - 5,000€5,100 - 6,400motorcycles | 45
