The <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> <strong>Program</strong>:The <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> <strong>Program</strong> offers training andsupport to adults who have developmentaldisabilities and children who have specialneeds.We assess a person’s skill level by doing astrengths and needs assessment. With thisinformation the person receiving services,employees, family members, advocates andsignificant others work together to developshort-term goals.We provide training in the following areas(but not limited to these):· Home Management (cleaning, laundry)· Money Management (budgeting,shopping, planning for future events)· Nutrition (cooking, shopping)· Social <strong>Skills</strong> (sex education,relationships, assertiveness, strangerawareness)· Transportation Training (public systemand private, i.e. City Transit)· Personal Care (hygiene, health, medicalappointments)· Community Resources (use of thelibrary, swimming pool, obtaining BCIdentification, Tenant Rights, contacting911)· Leisure and Recreational <strong>Skills</strong>Each goal is reviewed on an ongoing basis,and changes in objectives or strategies maybe required.The <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> <strong>Program</strong> for Adults is voluntary.Adults and children are referred by CommunityLiving British Columbia (CLBC).If you are interested in this service, call CLBC at565-6890.CLBC contracts services for <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong>, whichinclude:· Child Care Contracts· Self-Help <strong>Skills</strong> for Adults· Semi-Independent Living <strong>Skills</strong> for AdultsChild Care Contracts / Children’s<strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong>Provides supports to children up to 19 yearsold. A contract agreement is completed withthe parent/guardian and the <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong><strong>Program</strong> Manager or <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> Instructor.Self-Help <strong>Skills</strong> for Adults / Adult<strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong>Provides support to adults 19 years old andolder who live with their family and arepreparing to live on their own, or thosepeople who are already living on their own.A contract agreement is completed with theperson receiving services and the <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong><strong>Program</strong> Manager or <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> Instructor.Semi-Independent Live <strong>Skills</strong> forAdults / Adult <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong>Provides support to adults who live on theirown or with a roommate. The Plan isdeveloped by the person receiving services,significant others and the <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> <strong>Program</strong>Manager.
