In response to this request, the Buddharefers to four requirements which areconducive to happiness in this life:1) Accomplishment in Effort (uṭṭhāna-sampadā): <strong>The</strong> Buddha saysthat it is the honest effort needed to earn one’s living: One mustbe energetic, tireless, <strong>of</strong> an inquiring turn <strong>of</strong> mind and capable <strong>of</strong>organizing and carrying out one’s work systematically andefficiently.2) Requirement for Protection (ārakkha-sampadā): One should seethat the wealth one has earned is properly guarded and protected.3) Good Companionship/Friendship (kalyāṇa-mittatā).
