Kim Sung-Kyun is a L<strong>and</strong>scape Architect, currently a Professor of the Department of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture, Seoul<br />

National University. He holds a PhD in City <strong>and</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. He has<br />

Wang Xiangrong (1963 China) is professor <strong>and</strong> vice-dean of the School of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture at the Beijing<br />

Forestry University, the chief l<strong>and</strong>scape architect of Atelier DYJG <strong>and</strong> editor in chief of the Chinese Magazine of<br />

L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture. He received a BLA from Tongji University in 1983, an MLA from Beijing Forestry University<br />

in 1986, <strong>and</strong> gained his Ph.D. from the School of Urban <strong>and</strong> L<strong>and</strong>scape Planning at Kassel University, Germany, in<br />

1995.<br />

Mart Hiob <strong>and</strong> Nele Nutt (EE): Estonian historical manor park in changing l<strong>and</strong>scape<br />

Mart Hiob is a civil engineer, MSc, by the Norwegian University of Science <strong>and</strong> Technology. At the present time he<br />

is a lecturer at the Department of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture in Tallinn University of Technology, Tartu College. As<br />

well, Mart is the managing director of Artes Terrae office <strong>and</strong> an active member of the Estonian L<strong>and</strong>scape<br />

Shelley Egoz (NZ): Filling a Gap: The Right to L<strong>and</strong>scape<br />

Dr Shelley Egoz is a l<strong>and</strong>scape architect <strong>and</strong> Senior Lecturer at the School of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture Lincoln<br />

University New Zeal<strong>and</strong>. Shelley’s research interests are in the symbolic <strong>and</strong> ideological power of l<strong>and</strong>scape, in<br />

particular related to social justice, conflict resolution, <strong>and</strong> ethics associated with l<strong>and</strong>scape architecture, space<br />

<strong>and</strong> design. She has organised several conferences, presented in many, is on the editorial board of the journal<br />

L<strong>and</strong>scape Research <strong>and</strong> publishes continuously in journals <strong>and</strong> books. Shelley is the driver of the Right to<br />

L<strong>and</strong>scape (RtL) initiative at the Cambridge Centre for L<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> People (CCLP); she is the principal editor of<br />

the first book on l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> human rights titled The Right to L<strong>and</strong>scape, Contesting L<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> Human<br />

Igor Noev (MK/IT): Recognition of the spontaneous processes in architecture<br />

Igor Noev, born in Skopje, Macedonia has graduated in 2003 at Faculty of Architecture, “Ss Cyril <strong>and</strong> Methodius”<br />

University in Skopje, Macedonia. Currently is in the final year as a PhD fellow at the Department for architectural<br />

<strong>and</strong> urban design at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy. He was involved in various projects as a leading<br />

architect at “Folding...” Studio in Skopje, design architect for EU projects in Macedonia <strong>and</strong> in the Balkan region.<br />

He has participated in many national <strong>and</strong> international competitions, postgraduate courses, workshops <strong>and</strong><br />

congresses. His research interest includes spontaneity phenomenon in architecture, qualification of the nonplanned<br />

Sérgio Godinho (PT): Contemporary l<strong>and</strong>scape architecture design as a collective memory<br />

regenerator<br />

Sérgio Godinho is a L<strong>and</strong>scape Architect at the Municipality of Viana do Alentejo, Portugal. With a Degree in<br />

L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture he is currently registered at University of Évora as a Master Student on L<strong>and</strong>scape<br />

Architecture. His research interests focuses on the theme of contemporary l<strong>and</strong>scape design <strong>and</strong> heritage<br />

rehabilitation. Since 2006 he works on the practice of L<strong>and</strong>scape Design <strong>and</strong> Planning <strong>and</strong> monitors the green<br />

in rehabilitation of the fortified l<strong>and</strong>scape<br />

Anna Staniewska is a PhD. Architect, assistant professor (adiunkt) at the Institute of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture at<br />

Politechnika Krakowska (Cracow University of Technology). Fortified l<strong>and</strong>scape rehabilitation by NGOs was topic<br />

of her doctoral thesis defended in 2010. Her research interests include heritage l<strong>and</strong>scape planning <strong>and</strong> cultural<br />

Katarzyna Pałubska, PhD, l<strong>and</strong>scape architect, Assistant Professor at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, at<br />

l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> its contemporary use <strong>and</strong> the role of fortress green in the cityscape.<br />

Natalia García Fernández <strong>and</strong> Sergio Sanna (ES/IT): An analyse of Belice Valley 43 years after<br />

earthquake. Cartography of the memory<br />

Natalia García Fernández (Valencia, Spain, 1979) studied Architecture in Valencia <strong>and</strong> Venice (Italy). In Barcelona,<br />

she coursed the Master in L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Since 2007 she's<br />

been attending the PhD program at the Department of L<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> Urban Planning of the Polytechnic<br />

University of Valencia focusing her research on l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> its relationship with memory <strong>and</strong> territory. Actually<br />

Sergio Sanna (Palermo, Italy, 1974) studied Architecture in Palermo <strong>and</strong> Mendrisio (Switzerl<strong>and</strong>). In Barcelona, he<br />

coursed the Master in L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, <strong>and</strong> also collaborated<br />

with the research team at the Urban Planning <strong>and</strong> L<strong>and</strong>scape Department, where he organized <strong>and</strong> managed the<br />

International Schools' Exhibition of the European Biennial of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture in 2010. He was also visiting<br />

professor at the University of Rome, Italy, in 2009 <strong>and</strong> at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia in 2010.<br />

Gijs Wallis de Vries (NL): Waterscape. The case of Helmond<br />

Gijs Wallis de Vries (Semarang, 1952) studied architecture <strong>and</strong> urbanism in Delft. After a practice in urban<br />

renewal in Rotterdam, he obtained his PhD in Eindhoven with the dissertation Piranesi en het idee van de<br />

prachtige stad (Piranesi <strong>and</strong> the idea of the Magnificent City, Duizend&Een: Amsterdam, 1990). Wallis de Vries is<br />

associate professor at the department of the Built Environment of the University of Eindhoven. He lectures on<br />

architectural history <strong>and</strong> theory. He tutors research <strong>and</strong> design graduate studios that develop a narrative<br />

approach to urban space. He regularly supervises PhD research. He participates in the research programme ‘The<br />

architecture of the Living City’ chaired by prof. Pieter van Wesemael. His own research ‘Scape’ explores the<br />

relations of architecture, l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> the longing for escape. He presented at various conferences organized by<br />

ACSA, IGU, Cerisy, IASTE. He lectured in Delft, Zürich, Weimar, Brussels, Karlsruhe <strong>and</strong> published in Archis, Oase,<br />

F. Aycim Turer Baskaya (Ph.D.) is a lecturer in Department of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture at Faculty of Architecture,<br />

Istanbul Technical University. Turer Baskaya has a BLA from Istanbul University <strong>and</strong> received M.Sc. <strong>and</strong> Ph.D. in<br />

<strong>and</strong> Technical University of Vienna where she holds a position of lecturer. She is the founder member of the<br />

Derek Hoeferlin (US): Gutter to Gulf: legible water infrastructure for New Orleans<br />

Derek Hoeferlin is an architect, urban designer, principal of Derek James Hoeferlin Architect; <strong>and</strong>, collaborates<br />

with Waggonner & Ball Architects. Educated in architecture at Tulane <strong>and</strong> Yale Universities, Derek is currently an<br />

Assistant Professor at Washington University in St Louis’ Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. He <strong>and</strong> his<br />

students collaborate with faculty <strong>and</strong> students at the University of Toronto on “Gutter to Gulf” – an initiative<br />

advocating for integrated water strategies for New Orleans. With H3 Studio, Inc., Derek helped lead the “Unified<br />

New Orleans Plan;” <strong>and</strong>, was a member of the Behnisch Architekten team as fina<strong>list</strong> for the “City-Arch-River”<br />

design competition to reinvigorate areas surrounding the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. With Ian Caine, Derek placed<br />

first in the “Rising Tides” design competition in San Francisco. Derek currently is conducting global comparative<br />

delta <strong>and</strong> watershed field research to better inform adaptive architecture, l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> urban design strategies<br />

Nada Lazarevic Bajec (RS): Changing l<strong>and</strong>scapes – balancing actions: Belgrade water front<br />

adaptation to climate change<br />

Nada Lazarevic Bajec has 40 years of teaching experience in areas of l<strong>and</strong> use planning, urban design, local<br />

strategic planning, planning theory <strong>and</strong> history <strong>and</strong> research methodology. She has also more than 30 years of<br />

experience in research <strong>and</strong> consultancy on urban <strong>and</strong> regional planning policy, housing policy <strong>and</strong> strategy for<br />

Local <strong>and</strong> State Governments in Serbia, as well as for international organizations (UN-HABITAT, UNECE, Stability<br />

María A. Leboreiro Amaro, Architect, PhD at the Architecture School, Madrid. Professor of Urban Planning at the<br />

Francesco de Luca (EE/IT): Emergent, adaptive <strong>and</strong> responsive urban l<strong>and</strong>scapes design strategies<br />

PhD Arch. Francesco De Luca graduated with honors in Architecture <strong>and</strong> defended his Architecture Design <strong>and</strong><br />

Theory PhD thesis at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. He obtained several awards in architectural<br />

international competitions among which A concept plan of Pärnu riverside center 1st Prize <strong>and</strong> Design Against the<br />

Elements Special Energy Prize. He published various articles <strong>and</strong> the book Behind the scene - Avant-garde<br />

Techniques in Contemporary Design. After teaching at the L. Quaroni faculty of Architecture in Rome as Contract<br />

Professor is now Lecturer at the Tallinn University of Technology, Tartu College. He is co-founder of ITA Project<br />

Adam Bobbette is a researcher <strong>and</strong> designer. He currently teaches in the School of Architecture, Division of<br />

Eha Naylor (CA): Emergence of green infrastructure - rethinking highway infrastructure <strong>and</strong> urbanism<br />

Eha Naylor is a Partner <strong>and</strong> Practice Leader for the L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture <strong>and</strong> Environmental Design practice.<br />

Her 30 years of consulting experience reflects a diversity of expertise in environmental planning <strong>and</strong> site design<br />

for both the public <strong>and</strong> private sectors, which has earned her numerous professional awards of recognition. She is<br />

a member of several professional associations including the Canadian Society of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architects, the<br />

American Society of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architects, the Canadian Urban Institute, the Ontario Association of L<strong>and</strong>scape<br />

Architects <strong>and</strong> the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. In 2000, she was named Fellow of the Canadian Society<br />

of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architects. Eha has served on several professional committees, design juries <strong>and</strong> has also appeared<br />

as an environmental planning expert witness for the Ontario Municipal Board. She continues to lecture at a<br />

number of Canadian universities, <strong>and</strong> since 2004 has been a member of the University of Toronto Faculty Council<br />

for the John Daniels Faculty of Architecture, L<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> Design. She has served on several committees for the<br />

Washington based Council of L<strong>and</strong>scape Architectural Registration Boards <strong>and</strong> received the President’s Award for<br />

her efforts. Eha is currently appointed to the Canadian federal government’s National Capital Commission<br />

Valerie Dewaelheyns, Kirsten Bomans, Hubert Gulinck (BE): Lost in the urban-rural interface: the<br />

garden complex<br />

Valerie Dewaelheyns is researcher at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, department of Earth <strong>and</strong> Environmental<br />

Sciences. She holds a Master Degree in Bioscience engineering with a specialization in l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> forest<br />

management <strong>and</strong> is finishing l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> garden architecture studies at Erasmus University College Brussels.<br />

She was involved in policy supporting research on domestic gardens in Fl<strong>and</strong>ers, focusing on their environmental<br />

impact <strong>and</strong> spatial extent. Her PhD focuses on the structures <strong>and</strong> strategic values of the Flemish garden complex.<br />

Currently, she is working on a policy-supporting research project on climate change <strong>and</strong> changes in spatial<br />

planning in Fl<strong>and</strong>ers | sofie.bruneel@ees.kuleuven.be<br />

Kirsten Bomans is a researcher <strong>and</strong> assistant at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, department of Earth <strong>and</strong><br />

Environmental Sciences. She holds a master of bio-engineer, with a specialization in forest <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> management.<br />

She was involved in a project on current <strong>and</strong> future spatial needs for agriculture in Fl<strong>and</strong>ers. Currently, she is<br />

working for the Policy Research Centre on Space <strong>and</strong> Housing, doing research in different topics such as<br />

agriculture, hobby farming, fragmentation of open space, etc. She has published on these topics in international<br />

journals.<br />

Hubert Gulinck is full time professor at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven <strong>and</strong> teaches courses in L<strong>and</strong>scape Analysis,<br />

Rural L<strong>and</strong> Use, <strong>and</strong> L<strong>and</strong> Use Monitoring. Recent publications concern l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> use indicators in the<br />

Julie Frøik Molin is a L<strong>and</strong>scape Architect <strong>and</strong> PhD student at Forest & L<strong>and</strong>scape at the University of Copenhagen,<br />

Denmark. Her PhD project focuses on gathering existing experiences with involvement of citizens in management<br />

<strong>and</strong> maintenance of municipal green spaces, namely on how the local authorities are approaching involvement of<br />

citizens, the motivation <strong>and</strong> engagement of the citizens <strong>and</strong> the potentials for a beneficial collaboration between<br />

Nausica Pezzoni is an architect, PhD c<strong>and</strong>idate in Territorial Design <strong>and</strong> Government. She has worked as an urban<br />

planner by Public Administration (Lombardy Region <strong>and</strong> Milan Province). Now she is involved in research <strong>and</strong><br />

teaching activities at Polytechnic of Milan. Her research interests are focused on territorial transformations in the<br />

quality issues, especially issues related to low impact development design. She is a member of the American<br />

Pinar Koylu (TR): Students’ place attachments <strong>and</strong> perceptions of the city: case of Duzce<br />

Dr. Pinar KOYLU is an assistant professor at Duzce University, Faculty of Forestry, Department of L<strong>and</strong>scape<br />

Architecture. She studied L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture at Ankara University. She holds European Masters degree in<br />

Environmental Management. She also received Master of Fine Arts degree in Interior Architecture <strong>and</strong><br />

Environmental Design from Bilkent University. She conducted her PhD dissertation while working as a research<br />

assistant at Ankara University. Her research interests include historical gardens, l<strong>and</strong>scape design <strong>and</strong> peopleplace<br />

relations. She has published articles <strong>and</strong> presented papers on these topics. She is currently leading a<br />

Han Xili (CN): The influence of neighborhood environmental safety on children’s outdoor physical<br />

activity in ‘Urban Village’ areas of Beijing, China<br />

Xili Han is an assistant professor in L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School <strong>and</strong><br />

Architecture & L<strong>and</strong>scape Architecture School. Her research focuses on Green infrastructure; Children’s play<br />

environment–behavior interactions, <strong>and</strong> contemporary needs; <strong>and</strong> the senses of cities–attractiveness <strong>and</strong> quality<br />

Faezeh S. Miraei-Ashtiani (IR): The reflect of balcony design on the quality of its use<br />

Faezeh S. Miraei Ashtiani is a graduate student from the University of Tehran. She has born in Tehran <strong>and</strong> spent<br />

part of her life in Australia <strong>and</strong> United States. She has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture by the University of<br />

Tehran <strong>and</strong> working experience in the field of architecture at VAV studio in Tehran. Besides Architectures her free<br />

time is spent around horse riding, natural l<strong>and</strong>scapes, ornamental plant production <strong>and</strong> gardening |<br />

Iman Alsumsam (UK): Improvement to the quality of urban public spaces in Hama city, Syria<br />

Iman Alsumsam is a PhD student at University of Edinburgh with an experience in Architecture, urban design <strong>and</strong><br />

public space. Iman graduated with a B.Sc. in Architecture (with Distinction), Aleppo University in 2003 <strong>and</strong> a<br />

Diploma in Architectural Design, Aleppo University in 2005. After graduation, Iman taught in Aleppo University at<br />

the Architectural Design Department. Later in 2008, she got involved in ‘Urban Design Program’ at Edinburgh<br />

College of Art <strong>and</strong> was awarded an MSc. in Urban design. Currently, Iman is undertaking research project towards<br />

a PhD in Architecture, <strong>and</strong> her research interests incorporate work on the social <strong>and</strong> spatial qualities of public<br />
