bus<strong>in</strong>ess processes <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> third layer. What bus<strong>in</strong>ess processes <strong>to</strong> use and<br />

implement largely depends on what management philosophy and style is<br />

used <strong>to</strong> run <strong>the</strong> supply cha<strong>in</strong> organization.<br />

For <strong>in</strong>stance, if <strong>the</strong> organization favors participative management, <strong>the</strong>n<br />

we have a set of bus<strong>in</strong>ess processes that <strong>the</strong> participants and stakeholders<br />

are more <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>to</strong> accept collaboratively. On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, if <strong>the</strong><br />

organization chooses ano<strong>the</strong>r type of management style, <strong>the</strong>n we have a<br />

different set of bus<strong>in</strong>ess processes that may take a different set of participants<br />

and stakeholders a longer or shorter time <strong>to</strong> accept. Whatever <strong>the</strong><br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess processes and associated management philosophy are, <strong>the</strong> strategy<br />

must be spelled out clearly <strong>to</strong> help <strong>in</strong> translat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> philosophy <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

processes (and o<strong>the</strong>r actions <strong>to</strong> be taken by managers and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

decision makers) <strong>in</strong> various parts of <strong>the</strong> supply cha<strong>in</strong> organization.<br />

Associated with SCM is <strong>the</strong> SCP [1] with <strong>RFID</strong> technology that <strong>in</strong>volves<br />

<strong>the</strong> collaboration of demand and supply us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>RFID</strong> <strong>in</strong>frastructure <strong>to</strong> track<br />

multiple products at various po<strong>in</strong>ts <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> supply cha<strong>in</strong> for delivery of <strong>the</strong><br />

items <strong>to</strong> satisfy <strong>the</strong> demands of multiple cus<strong>to</strong>mers. It often is <strong>in</strong>volved with<br />

plann<strong>in</strong>g network plann<strong>in</strong>g, capacity plann<strong>in</strong>g, demand plann<strong>in</strong>g, manufactur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

resources, schedul<strong>in</strong>g, distribution, and deployment resources.<br />

More important is <strong>the</strong> forecast<strong>in</strong>g of demand and supply changes while<br />

<strong>the</strong> executives are <strong>in</strong>volved with managers on plann<strong>in</strong>g production. SCP is<br />

concerned with creat<strong>in</strong>g a set of suppliers <strong>in</strong> response <strong>to</strong> buyer forecasts,<br />

and with coord<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g <strong>RFID</strong> technology assets <strong>to</strong> optimize <strong>the</strong> delivery of<br />

products <strong>in</strong> order <strong>to</strong> balance demand and supply at a given po<strong>in</strong>t of time.<br />

Let’s take a quick look at SCE, SCO, SCV, and SCPM. SCE [1] provides a<br />

framework of applications that enable procurement and supply of products<br />

through <strong>the</strong> <strong>RFID</strong> technology <strong>in</strong>frastructure <strong>in</strong>tegrated with <strong>the</strong> enterprise <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />
