100% Swiss-made toys
Mecaplast SA, a specialist provider of plastic-injection moulded industrial components, manufactures
KIDITEC, a range of toys that are a huge hit with kids worldwide.
Diversification is the name of the game at Mecaplast SA,
a specialist in plastic-injection moulded medical and
industrial components. The Botterens-based company
now also manufactures KIDITEC, a range of construction
toys, on behalf of another Swiss firm, Techno Bloxx. A
clever mix of Lego and Meccano, these products are
aimed at children aged 3 to 10 and are 100% Swiss-made.
«This gives us a much sharper competitive edge over
the Chinese», notes Jean-Marc Jaccottet, managing
director of Mecaplast SA. The KIDITEC product range is

Die SWEP Tentlingen fährt voll auf Innovation. Der 300er
Typ seiner Wärmetauscher für Kühlgeräte wird neu mit
0,3-mm-Stahl statt wie bisher mit 0,4 mm gebaut. «Somit
sparen wir 25% Material ein, auch wenn wir genau gleich
viele Platten wie zuvor für die Herstellung benötigen»,
sagt Direktor Patrik van de Scheur. Konkret über die
Kosteneinsparung zu sprechen, sei schwierig, sagt van
de Scheur. «Die Stahlpreise schwanken sehr. So sind sie
already exported to over 25 countries, and there is room
for improving its distribution in the home market.
Today, KIDITEC accounts for 10% of Mecaplast’s manufacturing
output. Things are looking good for Mecaplast.
Not only is the KIDITEC range a success, but demand for
its core products is booming. In six years, the Mecaplast
workforce has gone from five employees working on a
500m 2 site to around 40 working on a new 3’500 m 2 site.

Generell kann bemerkt werden, dass die SWEP mit
25% Stahleinsparung auch entsprechend Produktionskosten
senkt. Die Prototypen für die neuen Wärmetauscher
sind bereits im Test, und das Marketing läuft im
März 2009 an. Die Vermarktung wird auf Europa ausgerichtet
und visiert grössere Unternehmen an, welche
im Bereich des «Airconditioning» tätig sind.
