Famous Speaker Speech – 100 pointsThe purpose of this assignment is to discover the fundamentals of established, powerful, effective public speakers and share what you learn with the class in an informative and creativeway.FirstFind a speech or section of a speech that is about 2-3 minutes long when spoken with emotionout loud. You are looking for a speaker that is widely regarded as a dynamic, charismaticpresenter and you should choose a speech that moves you.SecondOnce you have identified the speaker and the speech, analyze the speaker and the speech usingthe information and handouts you have been given in class. This is a separate assignment thatwill help you decide what to focus on in your speech (see reverse). In your speech, you willhighlight and discuss what the speaker and the speech do most effectively and, if appropriate, any weaknesses you find. Be sure to include excerpts from the speech! You may do some research to find what other people have to say but remember, do not plagiarizeany information. You must credit your sources within the speech itself and also turn in abibliography of sources used. Failure to do so will result in a zero for this speech.ThirdAfter you have finished your analysis, research your speaker’s life and what has influenced themas a speaker. Consider the following questions for your speech. What is interesting or unusualabout their life? What have they done in their life that has led them into the spotlight? What arethey famous for? Why are they giving speeches?Again, do not plagiarize any information you find in your research. You must credit yoursources within the speech itself and also turn in a bibliography of sources used. Failure to do sowill result in a zero for this speech.FourthDecide how you are going to present your analysis of the speech. If you have access to video oraudio of the speech, think about how you can smoothly integrate the sections of the famousspeaker’s speech into your own using technology. Another option would be to “become thespeaker” and deliver the sections of his/her speech like the famous speaker did or might havedelivered it. Please let me know if you will have any specific technology requirements.FifthCreate an outline or note cards that you will use during your speech. Remember, you should usethem to guide you, not to read from. Your outline or note cards are due the day we begin theFamous Speaker speeches.FinallyReview the rubric to make sure you haven’t forgotten something. This is a speech and it needsto be organized and delivered professionally!
