<strong>UCLA</strong> <strong>Design</strong> | <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Arts</strong><strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Change</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Major</strong><strong>Change</strong> <strong>of</strong> major applications are evaluated by <strong>Design</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> (DMA) faculty. Thenumber <strong>of</strong> accepted applicants is based on availability <strong>of</strong> space in the major in a givenyear. Students may apply for consideration no more than two times. Please note thatthe Department accepts applications only once a year, at the end <strong>of</strong> the fourth week <strong>of</strong>Spring Quarter. This year, the application is due on April 26, 2013.Requirements:1. You must be a <strong>UCLA</strong> student and you must have attended <strong>UCLA</strong> at least onequarter before applying for a change <strong>of</strong> major. If you withdraw from theapplication term, your application will be considered invalid.2. You must be in good academic standing when you apply.3. You may apply for only ONE change <strong>of</strong> major at a time.4. In order to ensure that students can finish the <strong>Design</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> major in anormal amount <strong>of</strong> time, we prefer students to have completed less than 90 unitsat the time <strong>of</strong> application. If you have over 121 units (excluding AP and <strong>Design</strong><strong>Media</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> courses), you are ineligible to apply.5. You may check with the DMA student affairs <strong>of</strong>ficer, Sara Lee, atsaraslee@arts.ucla.edu if you have questions about the change <strong>of</strong> major procedures.Required Application Materials:1. A completed “<strong>UCLA</strong> <strong>Change</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Major</strong>” petition.3. A copy <strong>of</strong> your Degree Progress Report (DPR), which shows your work from otherschools and any advance placement credit – may be obtained via URSA online orfrom your current counseling unit.4. Portfolio ‐ see attached “Portfolio Guidelines” for details.* Interviews and letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation are NOT required and will not beconsidered.

You are required tosubmit original work and submit in all four categories. These areas are an opportunityfor you to show <strong>of</strong>f your creativity. Surprise us! Delight us! Challenge us!I. CREATIVE TEXTIn 140 characters or less, write about the color RED.II. SELF PORTRAITSubmit a self portrait in the medium or media <strong>of</strong> your choice. The self portrait may beone still image, or a multimedia file (audio and/or video). The multimedia file is limitedto 30 seconds.III. PROJECTMake one great project about the color RED, in the media <strong>of</strong> your choice. Yourdocumentation <strong>of</strong> this project should be one to three (1‐3) still images and/or one (1)multimedia file. You may submit only still images, or only multimedia, or you maysubmit in both areas, but you are required to submit work in at least one area. Themultimedia file is limited to 2 minutes.Examples <strong>of</strong> Project compilations:‐ A. multimedia file‐ B. 3 still images + multimedia‐ C. 1 still image + multimedia‐ D. 2 still imagesIV. Mac users please ensure the CD is burned with a Windows readablefile system, either ISO‐9660 or Joliet, not HFS. Please label folders on the CD‐Rom asself‐portrait, still images, video, web, interactive or sound.1: STILL IMAGESBy still images, we mean drawing, painting, sculpture, photo, typography, screenshots,etc. in digital format. Images must be in either JPEG or TIFF format and must be 1024 X768 pixels at 72 dpi.2: VIDEOVideo can be submitted as excerpts on a CD‐Rom as .avi or .mov files.3: INTERACTIVE MEDIAInteractive projects such as web sites should be submitted on the same CD‐Rom as alink. Please include directions. We will not download any special programs,non‐standard plug‐ins, or extras.4: SOUNDSound files can be submitted on the same CD‐ROM as images. Please use a standardformat such as AIF, WAV or MP3.
