Please read carefully before beginning practicum assignmentsThe purpose of this course is to allow educators to earn university credits bydeveloping practical standards-based activities based on a <strong>Leadership</strong> and<strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Center</strong> Seminar or Conference. <strong>Brandman</strong> University will award 1-3semester units of graduate level professional development credit* based uponsatisfactory completion of course requirements.You must complete a minimum of 15 hours of combined seminar/conference/workshop time plus practicum time for each semester unit you have registeredfor as follows:1 unit = 15 hours2 units = 30 hoursFor instance, if a seminar is 6 hours in length, you will need to document anadditional 9 hours for one semester unit. If a workshop is 12 hours in length, youwill need to document an additional 3 hours for one semester unit. Please notethat the number of credits/hours you indicate in your practicum must match whatyou registered for.*These credits are professional development units that are not part of a degreeprogram but used primarily for professional advancement (such as salaryincrement steps and recertification). Students should seek approval fromappropriate district or college officials before enrolling in these courses to satisfyany degree, state credential, or local school district requirements. State licensingdepartments vary regarding their criteria for credit acceptance and some statesmay not accept credit from universities that are located outside the state.3


EvaluationIncluded in this syllabus is a rubric that matches the requirements for eachassignment. Your assignments will be evaluated based on that rubric. Use thisrubric as you evaluate your own assignments to ensure that you are meeting allrequirements.Assignment # 1: Attendance Verification Summary• Please submit with your coursework documentation of the time spent atthe workshop, seminar or conference.Assignment # 2: Action Plan• Select one or more key concepts/strategies explored in the event andcreate an action plan for how you will apply your learning to your currenteducational setting. Describe in detail the steps of your implementationhighlighting the knowledge and skill gained at the event. The action planmust identify the intended outcome(s) of the project (what you want to dodifferently in your work, student outcomes, etc.), the specific tasksnecessary to reach the outcome, estimated time needed to complete eachstep, and how you might evaluate your progress toward the desiredoutcome(s).Assignment # 3: Summary Paper• Write a 3-5 page essay that will include:o Summarize key topics of the seminar and how they apply to yourwork.o Summarize your action plan project with specific outcome(s) thatwere achievedo Reflect and summarize what new learning you gained as a result ofimplementing your action plan.4


Assignment # 4: Annotated Time Log• To document your event and practicum time, create an Annotated TimeLog using the form included in this syllabus or a similar one of your own.You may not include time spent on regular classroom activities forwhich you are already compensated. Please total the number of hours.The easiest way to create a TABLE is to use the Microsoft Word “Table” option. Choose “Table”at the top of your screen, then choose “Insert.” Choose “4” for the number of columns. You canstart with “4” for the rows also, but will add/delete rows as you go. To add/delete rows go to“Table”, then “Insert” or “Delete” and choose the appropriate action. If you want to add anotherrow, put your curser in the last row of your table and choose “Rows Below.”The sections will expand as you type. The columns can be made wider by using the curser todrag the lines.
