The households target group is responsible for alarge part of the result. It seems as though theactivities which Essent initiated together withthe other energy companies are beginning to bearfruit. These activities focus on encouragingenergy conservation by households. More andmore people are insulating their houses or buyingcondensing boilers. By virtue of these activities,Essent has now surpassed the target for householdsby 40%.Essent has paid considerable attention to the businessmarket in the past year. One example of thisis the ‘Essent Energy Mapping’ project. In thisproject, energy advice is provided to and surveyscarried out for interested companies, especiallyin the foodstuffs, office, education, hotel andcatering, and healthcare sectors. In addition,Essent has been active with the energy savingfund, resulting in a large number of applications.Essent leads the way in the Netherlands in thisfield: a total of some NLG 35 million has beeninvested in energy-efficient applications.The target for sustainable energy is within reach.The biomass power station in Cuijk which Essentcommissioned in 1999 is an example of a projectfor this target group. The power station isequipped with the latest technology and usesbiomass (e.g. unprocessed, clean wood) to generateelectricity.
