Winsome started her life as acustom built vessel, by JTaylor , Vancouver, to a avidand well known sailor in theracing community. BillLapworth was the designerand his boats were quicklygaining popularity for theirextraordinary performance on the race scene. Onefellow I met not long after we purchased Winsome III,15 years ago, admitted that in his youth he used tosit on the beach in English Bay and dream of owningher.Winsome was nursed and played by a regularcrew who pushed her to finish many a race, moreoften than not in first place. 59-61 Swiftshore was herglory moment where she gained 3 consecutive wins;a record that has yet to be broken.We found her in a barn, 36 broken ribs,rotting deck and sheer planks. Restoration startedimmediately. For 9 years I envied our friends outcruising while we were hard grafting with wood,varnish and paint . I used to sit on the bow ofWinsome and imagine we were cruising local waterswith dolphins playing alongside. Our first trip was tothe Gulf Islands for Thanks Giving; we wereaccompanied by a pod of Dolphins.In 2009, with the dignity she possessed onher original winning day, she led all the Swiftshoreboats to the start line.
