AIRPORT OPERATIONAL SAFETY TRAININGACI Global Safety Network Diploma Training ProgrammePROGRAMME CONTENTSThe ACI Global Safety Network Diploma Training Programme is specifically designed to meetthe needs of airside operations and <strong>safety</strong> managers and staff in developing, implementingand operating effective Safety Management Systems (SMS) at their <strong>airport</strong>s.The programme is composed of three modules:• Safety Management Systems• Airside Safety and Operations• Emergency Planning and Crisis ManagementDelegates will receive comprehensive notes on each module, a copy of the ACI SafetyHandbook and advice on where they can obtain further information following the Training.While each five-day module is a stand-alone <strong>training</strong> course, participants successfullycompleting all three modules will be awarded the ACI Global Safety Network Diploma.The contents of each module are as follows:Module 1 - Safety Management Systems• The <strong>International</strong> Requirements of Aviation Regulation and Aerodrome Certification• The Principles of Safety Management Systems• An Airport’s Liability following an Accident• How to implement an Effective SMS• Airside Auditing and Inspections• The ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Programme• Safety Cultures• SMS Documentation, Competencies and Training• Incident and Accident Investigation• Health and Safety at Work• Safety Committees• Integrating SMS• Human FactorsModule 2 – Airside Safety and Operations• The responsibilities of the Aerodrome Operator / Licensee• Aerodrome Operations and Obstacle Limitation Surfaces• Signals, Signs and Markings, Navaids and Lighting• Meteorology and the implications for <strong>Airports</strong>• Airside Vehicle Control and Driving• Aircraft Turnaround Plan• Handling Agent Licensing• Low Cost Carrier Operations• Fuel Management and Hazardous Materials• Aerodrome Development• Obstacle Control


• Wildlife Hazard Management• Winter Services• Coordination with Service Partners• Air Traffic and Ramp Control• Runway Incursion Awareness and Prevention• Adverse Weather and Low Visibility OperationsModule 3 – Emergency Planning and Crisis Management• Introduction to Emergency Planning• <strong>International</strong> Civil Aviation Requirements• Aircraft Accident and Incident Case Studies• Aircraft Recovery Techniques and Liabilities• Rescue and Fire Fighting Services• Managing the Press and Media• Victim and Staff Support• Calculation of Runway Declared Distances• Crisis Control Centres• Airport Safety and Security• Aviation Terrorism and Hijacking• Group Emergency ExerciseAll of the modules will include :-Facilitated Group Learning Exercises, Group Discussion on Best Practice / Lessons Learned.Information on New Technologies, Concepts and Regulations, Implementation andDevelopment of local Regulations, Standards and Recommended Practices. Sharing ofdelegates and Instructors experiences.Practical SessionsEach Module will also include an Airside visit to Zurich Airport. During this practical sessiondelegates will be able to observe and ask questions on procedures, which have beenimplemented and make comparisons with their own operations.Case StudiesExtensive use will be made of “Case Studies” for all of the modules. Experience has shownthat this is an ideal way for delegates to learn both in terms of ”Best Practice” and “LessonsLearned”.Attendance Certificate and DiplomaUpon completion of each Module delegates will receive a Course Certificate. Delegatessuccessfully completing all three Modules will receive an ACI Global Safety Network Diplomain Airport Safety Management Systems.Social EventsEach Module opens with a Welcome Lunch on the first day where delegates can get to knowone another. In the evening of the first day there is a walking tour of Zurich Old Town endingwith dinner in a traditional Swiss restaurant. For other evenings, there are many restaurantsin the vicinity and Zurich is just 10 minutes by train. Train, bus and tram passes are availablefor delegates who wish to visit Zurich.
