Chief Executive Officer’s <strong>Report</strong> (cont.)after this meeting that Minister Dutton announcement that the Aboriginal Community ControlledHealth Organisations would receive their funding for another year where at this time no other suchannouncements had been made.The <strong>NACCHO</strong> secretariat would launch its new report “Investing in Aboriginal Community ControlledHealth makes Economic Sense” in the National Press Club, which is showcased live on ABC nationally.This report was independently crafted highlighting the value that Aboriginal Community ControlledHealth Organisations provide both within the Australian health system and economically to thecommunities of which they reside as well as highlighting the need for the Australian governmentto fund our member services to the same parity as other services within the Australia health systemdemonstrating that our model is “Bang for the Buck”.The May budget would see announcements that would threaten our Universal Health System for a$7 Co-Payment, Forrest Review to address Education and Employment among Aboriginal and TorresStrait Islander people. <strong>NACCHO</strong> took our shared concerns to Ministers, national partners and amongstthe media of the impacts such policy shift would have on Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peopleas well as within the House of Representatives, Senate Committee ensuring we were utilising the fullParliamentary platform.On an empowering note the <strong>NACCHO</strong>/Menzies research for Smoking would come to an end withgauging 2000 interviews from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people nationally with 1000interviews as part of the follow up. The research initiative would enable solutions to reduce smokingrates amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, where other Australian interventions havefailed bringing the true philosophy to Aboriginal Community Control.
