Purpose. To provide policies and procedures to assist commanders and UnitRepresentatives with the implementation of <strong>Dodge</strong> <strong>Ball</strong> Tournaments.2. Scope. This memorandum applies to all military units located at <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> andto those Active Duty military personnel, Department of the Army civilians/contractemployees assigned to those units and Family Members.3. General.a. Dates for Tournament Play: To Be Announced.b. Player eligibility:(1) Tournament is open to all Active Duty personnel, retirees, DoD civilians,contract employees, and Family Members, 18 years of age and up.4. Responsibilities.a. Community Recreation Division, Sports Office will:(1) Supervise the dodge ball tournament.(2) Provide technical assistance to all participants.(3) Provide the following equipment for tournament play: <strong>Dodge</strong> balls, scoreclock, and numbered jerseys if needed. Note: Jerseys/equipment will be signed out forthe duration of the tournament.(4) Provide awards and officials for the tournament.(5) Establish and enforce rules, policies, and guidelines.(6) Publish tournament game schedules.b. Team coaches will:


IMSE-KNX-<strong>MWR</strong>-SSUBJECT: <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> <strong>Dodge</strong> <strong>Ball</strong> Tournamentstime.(1) Ensure team members are on the court and begin play at designated(2) Supervise all team members on and off the court.(3) Ensure players, during participation in the game, do not consumealcoholic beverages or drugs.(4) Promote sportsmanship and fair play among players and coaches.5. Rules. The 2013 National Amateur <strong>Dodge</strong> <strong>Ball</strong> Association (NADA) Rules will apply.a. Tournament play:(1) Teams will be comprised of 6-8 players. 6 players will compete on aside; substitutes may enter game only during timeouts or in case of injury.(2) The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by gettingthem "OUT". This may be done by:(a) Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders.(b) Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches theground. (If player catches a live ball that has hit a teammate without hitting the floor,opposing player is out.(c) Definition: LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touchedanything, including the floor/ground, another ball, official or other item outside ofthe playing field (wall, ceiling, etc.)(3) Game begins by placing the dodge balls along the center line – three (3)on one side of the center hash and three (3) on the other. Players then take a positionbehind their respective end line. Following a signal by the official, teams may approachthe centerline to retrieve the balls. This signal officially starts thecontest. Teams may only retrieve the three (3) balls to their right of the center hash.Once a ball is retrieved it must be taken behind the attack-line before it can be legallythrown.(4) First team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared thewinner. A 10 minute time limit has been established for each contest. If neither teamhas been eliminated at the end of the 10 minutes, the team with the greater number ofplayers remaining will be declared the winner. In the case of an equal number of playersremaining after regulation, a 1-minute sudden-death overtime period will be played.2


IMSE-KNX-<strong>MWR</strong>-SSUBJECT: <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> <strong>Dodge</strong> <strong>Ball</strong> Tournaments(5) Each team will be allowed one (1) 30 second timeout per game. At thistime a team may substitute players into the game. A team may only substitute a playerfor a player. (Example, if a team has four (4) players before the timeout, team returnswith four players). <strong>Ball</strong>s will be placed back at the center line during a timeout. Play willresume when official gives signal.(6) In order to reduce stalling, a violation will be called if a team in the leadcontrols all six (6) balls on their side of the court for more than 5 seconds.(7) During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines. Playersmay leave the boundaries through their end-line only to retrieve stray balls. They mustalso return through their end-line. Any player retrieving a ball that is hit in any areaoutside the court other than directly behind their end-line is out.(8) Players ejected from a game will be suspended for the duration of thetournament. Players ejected for fighting will be suspended for the remainder of theIntramural <strong>Dodge</strong> <strong>Ball</strong> season.6. Awards: The Sports Office will provide trophies for the 2013 <strong>Dodge</strong> <strong>Ball</strong> tournament.Participation in tournament is worth 10 points for each team, with a maximum of 50 foreach unit toward the Commander’s Cup Trophy. In addition, the 1 st place team in thetournament will receive 50 points, the 2 nd place team will receive 35 points, the 3 rd placeteam will receive 20 points, and the 4 th place team will receive 10 points.7.
