Incidents involving a person experiencing more severe cases of mental illness,particularly where a psychotic person is distressed, can be extremely difficult andchallenging for police.In these situations police needed to remember:-there are no ‘quick fixes’ - take your time.-awareness of their own responses to stressful situations and monitortheir body language and communication skills-know the history of the person-apply cordon and containment principles but do not threaten theperson’s personal space-’problem solve’ the situation
