Mission Statement 

Founded in 1939 by the Sisters of Saint Dominic, Caldwell 

College is a Catholic institution in the Judeo-Christian tradition 

with a heritage of eight centuries of Dominican commitment to 

higher learning. Serving a diverse population of all ages, 

Caldwell College provides an excellent liberal arts 

education which promotes spiritual, intellectual and aesthetic 

growth. Upon this foundation, the College offers careerrelated 

programs which prepare its graduates to take 

advantage of opportunities in a complex society. 

In pursuit of truth and life-long learning, Caldwell College 

fosters the well-being of this and future generations. Through 

a curriculum and extracurricular program rooted in the 

Catholic humanist tradition, the College seeks to empower its 

students to comprehend community and global issues and to 

act responsibly toward self and others.

A Letter from the President 

As I look back over the past fifteen years as President of Caldwell College, I am 

amazed at the growth of the College, both the spiritual, extracurricular and academic 

achievements of our students, and the numerous physical changes here on campus. 

None of this could have been accomplished without the support and generosity you have 

shown throughout the years. When you read through the following pages acknowledging 

the generosity of our alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends, just know that each of 

them has his/her own story about Caldwell College, and these stories are all part of the 

success we have achieved together. 

I am proud to say that in 2008, Caldwell College continued along that road of success. 

Our students are not only prepared to make their mark on their careers, but with a liberal 

arts education as their foundation, they are prepared to make an impact on the world. 

Academic rigor is a priority at Caldwell, along with giving back to the community. As 

President, I have seen many students who are successful in both the classroom and in 

their communities, and I am proud that I have played a part in their education. 

The vision of the little college on the hill has changed over the years into a wonderful 

institution built, not just on a foundation of higher education for those without access, 

but also on the premise that an excellent liberal arts education, in the tradition of 

St. Dominic, would continue to have an impact on our world for decades to come. 

As we look back at all that has been accomplished, we are also looking ahead and 

creating more pages in the history of Caldwell College. 

Although my time here is coming to an end, this is really another new beginning for 

Caldwell College. The College is currently in the process of developing the first Doctorate 

level program in Applied Behavior Analysis, a well-developed field of study that has 

been shown to be very effective in the education of those with autism. Caldwell College 

recognized the demand for more programs to properly meet the needs of this growing 

population by offering the first Master’s Degree Program in ABA in the State of New 

Jersey. Now we are moving ahead by launching a Ph.D. Program. Imagine what else 

we can accomplish together! 

As the College enters the second decade of the 21st century we will be acknowledged 

regionally as a significant contributor to the education and values of the next generation 

of leaders; recognized for the quality of our faculty and staff, our programs, the 

opportunities we offer our students and for the accomplishments of our alumni. 

We will be able to achieve these goals and aspirations because of you our donors. 

We are truly blessed to have so many loyal and wonderful supporters of the College.

Caldwell College recently held a celebration for the opening of its new Assistive Technology Lab in the 

College’s Academic Support Center. Students are reaping the benefits of the new assistive software, 

which includes screen reading software, screen magnifier software, software that assists with reading, 

writing and overall learning and voice recognition software. The College also purchased 12 new 

computers and set up learning stations in the lab. This project was accomplished through a generous 

grant from the George I. Alden Trust.

Instead of heading to exotic destinations for Spring Break, from March 24-29 a group of Caldwell College students headed south to 

Appalachia and replaced siding, repaired roofs and performed other household repairs for those in need in eastern Kentucky. Getting 

a hands-on experience of Appalachia and knowing lives were being changed was the true reward for the students. 

This is just one of the many service efforts our students are involved in. Other examples 

are serving the homeless in our Midnight Run program, working with inmates in our prison 

ministry program, tutoring children with disabilities, and serving senior citizens in need.

they make on the communities we serve. These experiences 

develop in our students a sense of common good and 

human compassion; that which speaks to the Catholic

Caldwell College is currently seeking support to launch our new Ph.D. program in Applied Behavior 

Analysis (ABA) and to open an on-campus Autism Clinic with parent training workshops and programs. 

The significant increase in the number of New Jersey individuals diagnosed with autism has created 

an enormous strain on the local school districts. Caldwell College recognized that special education 

teachers and other professionals in this area needed additional expertise to properly meet the needs of 

this growing population and began the only Master’s degree program of its kind in the state. We are 

now hoping to build on the success of this program by offering our first Doctoral program to train 

professionals who will become leaders in the field of autism treatment.

WHAT IS THE CALDWELL COLLEGE ANNUAL FUND? 

The Caldwell College Annual Fund raises money for unrestricted support, 

which targets the most pressing needs of the college. 

HOW CAN I SUPPORT IT? 

Approximately 90% of undergraduate students here at Caldwell College 

receive some form of financial aid. Therefore, scholarship support is 

extremely important. 

Gifts may be designated to enhance our student life or athletic programs and 

to help continue to provide our students with extracurricular elements to round out 

their educational experience. 

The College is equipped with a number of state-of-the-art computer labs, where 

every student, regardless of their financial background, has access to the latest

Affinity Funds 

2007-2008 

• General Fund – College to determine most pressing need. 

• Endowment Fund – To be added to corpus of investment. College uses annual interest payments for 

most pressing need. 

• Cougar Pride – Annual Fund for Athletics 

Cougar Pride provides Cougar fans an opportunity to get involved and play an active role in supporting 

Caldwell College Athletics. Gifts can be donated to the general fund which supports degree completion 

for student-athletes who use up their eligibility or who are injured and are unable to perform. Gifts may 

also be designated by sport, with 10% of each gift restricted for the general fund. All of the financial 

support generated by Cougar Pride will be used to enhance the athletic programs at Caldwell College as

• Paver Project – Make your mark on Caldwell! By offering the sale of pavers, we can succeed in making 

the Plaza a permanent tribute to those who have touched our lives and helped make Caldwell College the

• Student Scholarships – Invest in the students of Caldwell College. Help our students achieve their 

educational goals by donating the assistance they need most. Resources can be directed to a general 

scholarship fund, or designated scholarships can be established for a minimum annual donation of 

$1,000 per year. 

• Student Life – A vibrant and active campus is a key factor in student engagement. Learning outside the 

classroom is as important as the lessons taught in class. Your support will directly impact student events, the 

frequency of speakers, performers or entertainers on campus, and the quality of programming we provide 

our students. 

• Technology – Wireless Internet access is continuing to be rolled out across campus. Students can now 

research topics at workstations throughout the library, access the Blackboard Class Management System 

from their classrooms, or just surf the Internet in their dorm rooms. Your support will be directed towards 

finishing this important project, and helping Caldwell keep up with the latest technological advances. 

• Academic Programs – Academic rigor is a priority at Caldwell. Your support will help to develop new 

programs or assist currently under-funded programs and projects. Gifts can be restricted to academic 

department or can be donated to a general fund.
