BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHBeverly Whipple, PhD, RN, FAANProfessor Emerita, Rutgers University87 Matlack DriveVoorhees, NJ 08043Phone <strong>and</strong> fax 856 309 1510e-mail bwhipple@pics.comDr. Beverly Whipple, a certified sexuality educator, sexuality counselor, <strong>and</strong> sex researcher, is theco-author of the <strong>in</strong>ternational best-seller, The G Spot <strong>and</strong> Other Discoveries About Human<strong>Sexuality</strong>, which has been translated <strong>in</strong>to 19 languages <strong>and</strong> was re-published as a Classic 23 yearslater <strong>in</strong> 2005. Her other co-authored books are: Safe Encounters: How Women can say Yes toPleasure <strong>and</strong> No to Unsafe Sex; Smart Women, Strong Bones; Outwitt<strong>in</strong>g Osteoporosis; TheScience of Orgasm (2006); <strong>and</strong> The Orgasm Answer Guide (2010). Dr. Whipple has appeared onover 250 radio <strong>and</strong> TV programs <strong>and</strong> has been featured <strong>in</strong> many magaz<strong>in</strong>es. She has deliveredover 600 talks <strong>and</strong> keynote speeches, published over 170 research articles <strong>and</strong> book chapters. In1982 <strong>and</strong> 1983 The Philadelphia Magaz<strong>in</strong>e named her one of the People to Watch. She is therecipient of many awards, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Hugo Beigel Research Award for research excellence <strong>and</strong>the best article published <strong>in</strong> the Journal of Sex Research, the NJ State Nurses’ Association Awardfor Excellence <strong>in</strong> Research, the Dist<strong>in</strong>guished Scientific Achievement Award, the Public ServiceAward, the K<strong>in</strong>sey Award <strong>and</strong> the Bullough Award for the most dist<strong>in</strong>guished book written <strong>in</strong> 2006from the Society for the Scientific Study of <strong>Sexuality</strong> (SSSS), <strong>and</strong> the Professional St<strong>and</strong>ard ofExcellence Award <strong>and</strong> the Dist<strong>in</strong>guished Service Award from the American Association of <strong>Sexuality</strong>Educators, Counselors <strong>and</strong> Therapists (AASECT). She is also a Fellow of the Society for theScientific Study of <strong>Sexuality</strong> <strong>and</strong> a Fellow <strong>in</strong> the American Academy of Nurs<strong>in</strong>g. The New Scientistnamed her one of the 50 most <strong>in</strong>fluential scientists <strong>in</strong> the world (2006).Dr. Whipple is a Professor Emerita at Rutgers University of NJ. She has a BS <strong>in</strong> Nurs<strong>in</strong>g fromWagner College, a Masters <strong>in</strong> Counsel<strong>in</strong>g, a Masters <strong>in</strong> Nurs<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>and</strong> a PhD <strong>in</strong> Psychobiology,with a major <strong>in</strong> Neurophysiology, from Rutgers University.Her concern with women's health derives naturally from her over forty years of help<strong>in</strong>g womento feel better about themselves, as a nurse, a nurse educator, <strong>and</strong> researcher. Her researchfocuses ma<strong>in</strong>ly on women's health issues <strong>and</strong> the sexual physiology of women.Dr. Whipple is a member of a number of Honor Societies <strong>and</strong> received the Alumni AchievementAward <strong>in</strong> 1983 <strong>and</strong> was named An Alumni Fellow <strong>in</strong> 2007 by Wagner College. Dr. Whipple wasthe President of AASECT (1998-2000), was the Vice President of the World Association forSexology (2001-2005), the Secretary General/Treasurer of the World Association for SexualHealth (2005-2009), was on the Board of the International Society for the Study of Women’sSexual Health (2002-2004), <strong>and</strong> was the President of SSSS (2002-2003). She is an HonoraryMember of the Board of the Foundation for the Scientific Study of <strong>Sexuality</strong> (FSSS).Dr. Whipple lives <strong>in</strong> Voorhees, New Jersey with Jim, her husb<strong>and</strong> s<strong>in</strong>ce 1962. They have twogrown children <strong>and</strong> five gr<strong>and</strong>children.
