<strong>Locum</strong> <strong>Volunteer</strong> <strong>Co</strong>-<strong>ordinator</strong> & <strong>Caseworker</strong><strong>Job</strong> <strong>Description</strong>The postholder will be responsible for:recruiting and managing volunteers and promoting volunteering as a positiveexperience in which people can use their skills, education and experience in support ofvulnerable debtors,Providing advice to and acting as a McKenzie Friend for vulnerable debtors in Londonwho face court or tribunal proceedings for essential household expenditure or whohave problems with the benefit system and supporting volunteers who are also doingthat work.Responsible to : Chief Executive OfficerResponsible for :<strong>Volunteer</strong>s supporting the work of Z2K in the London region.Salary : £26,000 pro rataHours of work : 37.5 hours per week<strong>Co</strong>ntract : 9 months full time with a possibility of a 3 month extensionHolidays : 28 days including bank holidays pro rata<strong>Co</strong>mmencement : July 2013Purpose of the postThe purpose of this role is to help recruit new volunteers to support those on low incomesto deal with court proceedings, as well as to co-ordinate, maintain and develop training andsupport for all existing volunteers who play a key part in the provision of Z2K’s services. Therole is also to help to carry out casework which is not suitable for volunteers and to work


with and support volunteers working on cases in London or volunteers who are operatingthrough organisations that we have trained outside London.Specific duties1. To recruit new volunteers and manage existing ones2. To provide casework assistance to clients who face court or Tribunal proceedings orenforcement as a result of difficulties with council tax , small fines, rent arrears, utilitybills, benefit overpayments and appeals against denial or reduction of benefits3. To attend and provide ad hoc advice at drop in advice clinics a couple of times amonth4. To support Z2K volunteers with advice on legal or other difficult issues which arisefrom their casework.5. To manage, review and improve the volunteer induction and training programme andensure all volunteers attend appropriate training courses and keep themselvesupdated.6. To allocate volunteers to cases and court hearings and ensure they are provided withall appropriate information and support.7. To review, update and implement effective monitoring and supervision procedures8. To maintain a central database system for volunteer monitoring purposes.9. To attend meetings and training courses as required, including monthly supervisionmeetings with the Chief Executive Officer.10. To organise regular events at appropriate times for volunteers to exchangeexperiences and discuss problems.11. To help to produce and keep a volunteering manual regularly reviewed and updated.

Experience of being a volunteer or working with volunteers.2. At least 1 year’s experience of advice casework or other relevant experience i.e.legal qualification.3. Ability to support and motivate within a team structure.4. Leadership ability and confidence.5. Experience of working face to face and communicating with members of thepublic.6. IT literate, with the experience of and ability to use computerised systems(including experience of Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).7. Ability to use and maintain the central data management database system forcase management and volunteer monitoring purposes.8. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, includingtelephone skills and writing minutes / reports.9. Ability to use initiative and work creatively and flexibly to achieve the objectivesof the post.10. Ability to prioritise and manage time and resources in a competent manner.Desirable1. Awareness, empathy and understanding of the needs of those on low incomes.2. Experience of facilitating and managing meetings.3. Ability to take a strategic approach and implement ideas.4.
