Volume 17, Issue 1
August, 2012
We hope everyone had an enjoyable, relaxing summer break. We are anxious to get our 2012-2013 school
year underway. The first day of school is Thursday, September 6th. Middle School, grades 5-8 will begin school
at 7:45 AM and Elementary School, K-4 will begin school at 8:25 AM. As with the start of each new school year,
there are a few new faces and changes:
Student Packet... All students will be given a packet of information on the first day of school. Your timely
response in completing these forms is appreciated. As you may have noted the Emergency Information Form
was enclosed in this mailing. Please send this completed form to school with your child on our first day of
school, Thursday September 6th.
A new Student Parent Handbook will be available on our school website to all families. It is an encyclopedia
of school information to assist families with answers to your questions. If you do not have access to the
internet, please contact the office so that we can print you a copy.
Middle school students will receive their class schedule on the first day of school in homeroom. STUDENTS
WILL REPORT TO THE CAFETERIA FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND THEN WILL BE
DISMISSED TO HOMEROOMS.
Parent/Teacher Communication is essential! – Please be sure to write your child’s teacher a note letting
them know each time your child’s dismissal procedure will be something other than bussing if they are a bus
student or walking if they are a walker. Written notes are the only way we can be sure dismissal information is
accurate. Please note that bus students are only permitted to ride on the bus which they have been assigned.
Students designated as walkers are not permitted to ride a bus to another student’s home.
Early Dismissal . . . We ask that early dismissal requests be made only for emergencies. Pulling students out
of class early will be counted as an early dismissal on their attendance record. See student handbook page 20.

PLEASE NOTE: A Borough Council ordinance that prohibits parking in the yellow striped fire
lanes and along the yellow curbs at the school is in effect 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The police
will issue tickets to anyone who parks in these locations. Frequently we have had difficulty with double
parking in the front lot adjacent to the elementary entrance and those who are parked legally cannot
leave in a timely manner. Please DO NOT DOUBLE PARK. Thank you.
Middle School Arrival Procedure:
Students may be dropped off at 7:30 in the elementary bus loop at the main entrance and
report directly to the cafeteria.
The middle school bus loop will only be available after buses have arrived and students
have entered the building.
Elementary Arrival Procedure Reminders:
Children may be dropped off after 8:10.
Do not drive into the bus loop as school buses are arriving and dropping off students.
Please line up at the curb in the middle school parking lot and discharge students from the
passenger side of your vehicle only.
Please do not cut ahead of other vehicles that are waiting in line.
Do not discharge students in the middle of the roadway and expect them to walk between
lined up cars.
If you choose to park in the parking lot, escort your child by the hand to the curb, do not
expect them to negotiate through traffic unescorted.
Please place safety before convenience.
Car Pick-Up Procedures… Pick up of elementary students will take place in the elementary
loop once the buses have departed. All students who are being picked up by a parent in a car will
report to the cafeteria at the end of the school day. Once the buses have departed, cars may pull into
the driveway in the front of the elementary school. We ask that you drive your vehicle along the sidewalk
where a staff member will ask your child's name and have you sign them out. Through radio
communication, your child will be called to your car. Please do not leave your car unattended. Students
should enter vehicles from the curb (passenger) side of the vehicle and not from the street
(driver) side of the vehicle, which is far more dangerous. Students will not be permitted to proceed to
cars parked in either lot unescorted.
Walkers will be escorted to the beginning of the Carriage Stop and Centennial Path with the assistance
of the crossing guard to the soccer parking lot where they will be discharged to parental supervision
should parents be present. Walkers headed toward Route 30 will be escorted to the end of the
elementary parking lot loop. With your help, this process will run smoothly, and SAFELY.
Early Dismissals . . . .We ask that early dismissal requests be made only for emergencies. Pulling
students out of class early is very disruptive to the classroom.
