Las Casas Residence Hall serves as a hub for student residential life and offers housing to students in all stages of their academic career. Las Casas is a threestory complex with on-site recreation facilities, including a spacious community center, computer lab, swimming pool and sand volleyball court. Amenities include single, two- and four bedroom units, shared and/or private bathrooms, inclusive utilities, wireless computing, in-room kitchen facilities, laundry facilities, secure key card access, and weekly social activities. Las Casas also features a wing for upper-division students only. Las Casas Community Center The Community Center is a gathering area for Las Casas residents. It is equipped for multiple uses, including academic and social activities. Here residents convene regularly for hall meetings, study groups and interest group gatherings. The Community Center also includes a standard classroom and computer classroom. Residents’ mailboxes are located in the Community Center, as are the Las Casas management offi ces. Complete with a TV, VCR/DVD, stereo system, comfortable couches, chairs and game table, it’s a great place to get together with your neighbors and friends to cheer on the Sun Devils on game day! 16 17
Engrained Designed as an educational food experience, Engrained supports sustainability and environmental stewardship using local, organic, humane and fair-trade foods. Opened in fall 2008 on the Tempe campus, the restaurant was built by way of environmentally responsible construction and uses renewable resources and Energy Star appliances where possible. Engrained uses campus-harvested produce such as herbs, citrus and dates. Menu items change to refl ect seasonal fresh produce, vegan and vegetarian options as well as selections based on local meats and dairy. Customers can dine from a center island and observe nutritious meals being prepared and cooked in a natural hearth oven. Dining and Meal Plan Options Dining with friends is an integral part of your college experience. Whether it’s a quick bite on the go or a casual sit-down meal with your friends, a meal plan is an effortless way to refuel and reconnect. Meal plans are required for all freshmen living on campus and are required in some upperdivision communities. Meal Plans With a meal plan, you have secured spending so there’s no need to worry about carrying cash on campus. Our affordable plans include All-You-Care-to-Eat (AYCE) meals and the fl exibility of a-la-carte purchasing using Maroon & Gold Dollars (M&G). AYCE meals are accepted at Manzy Square, Pitchforks in the Memorial Union, Barrett Dining Center, and at the Hassayampa Dining Center on the Tempe campus, as well as at the Taylor Place residential restaurant on the Downtown Phoenix campus. Maroon & Gold M&G is a pre-paid declining-balance system that supplements your AYCE meals. M&G is accepted at our more than 35 locations across all ASU campuses including the Polytechnic Student Union, City Café on the Downtown Phoenix campus and dining facilities at the West campus. Use it for a quick and delicious lunch at dining venues on campus, a latte and Wi-Fi at the Starbucks ® nearest you, or a box of detergent from one of the campus markets to fi nish your laundry.
