ACTIVFLEX 5430RECONFIGURABLESWITCHING SYSTEMFeatures and Benefits> Provides 120 Gb/s per service slotcapacity, up to 480 Gb/s capable> Enables intelligent automatedprovisioning, planning and protection/restoration via the world’s mostadvanced multi-layer ASON/GMPLScontrol plane> Consolidates SONET/SDH, OTN 1 ,and Ethernet/MPLS networks> Reduces sparing and easesprovisioning with programmableSONET/SDH/OTN/Ethernet 1Ciena’s ActivFlex 5430 ReconfigurableSwitching System (RSS) is the industry’s firstmulti-terabit packet-optical switching platformthat transforms networks into scalable, flexible,cost-reduced service-enabling infrastructuresto meet the monumental traffic growthchallenges of the 21st century. The system features SONET/SDH/OTN/packet switch fabric, intelligent multi-layeroptical control plane, and compact design, with 3.6 Tb/s switch capacity in a singlebay, scalable to 14.4 Tb/s and beyond. The 5430 RSS uses Ciena’s FlexiPort technologyto offer unprecedented flexibility and investment protection with programmableinterfaces for switching SONET/SDH, OTN, and Ethernet. Architected to supportspeeds ranging from 155M to 100G in a high-density, energy-efficient platform, the5430 RSS is a compelling solution for network operators’ metro and core networks.IP/MPLS IP/MPLS IP/MPLS> Supports STS-1/VC3 and ODU-0transport containers for efficientservice delivery, maximizingbandwidth utilization> Transforms networks to scalable,cost-efficient service delivery systemsvia OTN/packet switching, enablingIP router offload, minimizing CAPEXoutlaysSONET/SDHOTN{VLAN/PW/LSPsSub- servicesOC-x/STMxODUxOC-x/STMxEthernetSONET/SDH,OTN, L2 andSwitchingEthernetODUxOC-x/STM-xODUx}VLAN/PW/LSPsSub- servicesSONET/SDH> Provides short-reach and tunable LHXFP DWDM 1 optics, eliminating backto-backclient interfacesSONET/SDHODUxODUxODUxOC-x/STMx-s routing-sOTNSONET/SDH> Provides a six-fold reduction infootprint and 2.5-fold reductionin power consumption per bitFigure 1. The 5430 is optimized for low-cost, next-generation bandwidthmanagement, enabling efficient aggregation, grooming, andforwarding of multiple traffic types. The system employsCiena’s world-renowned multi-layer optical control plane, shared by Ciena’s CoreDirector ® FS Multiservice OpticalSwitch, to automate labor-intensive operations includingplanning, provisioning, and topology and inventorymanagement. FastMesh ® algorithms also enable Ciena’soptical control plane to provide the highest availabilitynetworks—measured in the field at over six-9s—for mission-critical services. The OTN/packet switch fabric enables all traffic to beforwarded over the most efficient and economical networklayer, as shown in Figure 1, minimizing total cost of ownership.Converging the optical and packet layers onto one platformenables the network operator to optimize the network for anytraffic mix, reconfigure the network instantly for changingdemands, and provide the scalability for unpredictable trafficgrowth. The 5430 RSS also enables new on-demand serviceswith dynamic bandwidth provisioning, and maximizes networkefficiency with a range of grooming options at the SONET/SDH, OTN, and packet traffic.Technical InformationControl PlaneG.ASON/GMPLS SONET/SDH Control PlaneG.ASON/GMPLS OTN Control PlanePoint-and-click auto-provisioningAutomatic path computationAuto-discovery of network resourcesLink bundling for large network scalabilityMultiple protection/restoration service classesAdministrative weight routingLatency routingLocal Span Mesh Restoration (LSMR)1+1 Mesh Restorable SNCP (MR-SNCP) forrapid protection and ultra-survivabilityE-NNI supportI/O ModulesProgrammable FlexiPort FormatsTDM Services Line Module (TSLM-48)48 multi-rate pluggable 155M to 2.7G Ports:OC-3/STM-1 — 155.52 Mb/sOC-12/STM-4 — 622.08 Mb/sOC-48/STM-16 — 2.488 Gb/sOTU-1 1 — 2.666 Gb/sGbE 1 — 1 Gb/s(Numerous types of SFPs)SONET/SDH (SSLM-48) and OTN (OSLM-48)optimized versions also availableTSLM-1212 pluggable 10G Ports:OC-192/STM-64 — 9.953 Gb/s10GbE – 10.3 Gb/sOTU-2 1 – 10.709 Gb/sOTU1e 1 - 11.049 Gb/sOTU2e 1 - 11.095 Gb/s(Numerous types of XFPsincluding tunable C-Band XFPs 1 )SONET/SDH (SSLM-12) and OTN (OSLM-12)optimized versions also availableTSLM-3 23 pluggable 40G Ports:OTU-3 – 43.018 Gb/s40GbE – 41.25 Gb/s(Numerous types of CFPs)OSLM-3 – OTN optimized variantPacket Services Line Modules (PSLM) areavailable in the 5410 and will be availablein the 5430 in a future release.Software FeaturesConfigurable OTN/SONET/SDH OAMSONET-SDH GatewaySONET/SDH – OTN GatewayOTN/SONET/SDH MulticastAutomated Link GroomingIntelligent Optical Control PlaneOptical Protection and Restoration OptionsFastMesh connection-level end-to-endreroute restorationSONET/SDH & OTN SNCPAPS/MSP (1+1), MR-SNCPAPS/MSP 1:N & N+14F BLSR/MS-SPRingTiming Support1.544 Mb/s/2.048 Mb/s BITS/Station Clockinputs and outputs, line timingSSM supportAIS thresholdsStratum 3E/G.812 Type III node clockhold-over timing (G.813 optionalso available)Element and Network ManagementStandards-based CORBA IDL interfacesTMN-based architecture and informationmodelsTL-1 craft interface for operational familiarityIP over DCC/GCC extensions for managementof subtended network elements 15430 Node Manager for GUI-based elementmanagementON-Center ® Core Switching Manager fornode and network managementON-Center Service Layer Manager for end-toendSONET/SDHOTN and Ethernet services managementCoreDirector Designer for 5430 off-linecapacity planningNetwork validation and optimizationNode configurationUniversal OSS Gateway compliant withTMF-814 for operations integration1OTN, Ethernet, XFP DWDM, and IPoDCC features are currently expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2010.2The TSLM-3 module is currently expected to be available in the first quarter of 2011.2
