New UndersheriffOn February 24th <strong>Sheriff</strong> Patrick O'Flynn announced <strong>the</strong>appointment <strong>of</strong> Captain William Sanborn as <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sheriff</strong>'s<strong>Office</strong> new Undersheriff.Undersheriff Sanborn is a 21-year veteran <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sheriff</strong>'s<strong>Office</strong> who began his career in 1989 He most recentlyserved as <strong>the</strong> Zone C commander.Undersheriff Sanborn worked in many different areasincluding CIS, Internal Affairs, and as watch commanderin Zone A and C.Undersheriff Sanborn earned his Masters Degree fromSUNY Brockport, and is an FBI National Academygraduate.New York State <strong>Sheriff</strong>’s Association AwardsIn December <strong>of</strong> 2010, each Bureauwas asked to review and submitrecommendations for <strong>the</strong> New York State<strong>Sheriff</strong>’s Association (NYSSA) annualawards program. The awards programconsists <strong>of</strong> eight individual awards, many<strong>of</strong> which are bureau specific. The NYSSAreceived submissions from <strong>the</strong> sixty–two<strong>County</strong> <strong>Sheriff</strong>’s <strong>Office</strong>s across New YorkState. A <strong>Sheriff</strong>’s <strong>Office</strong> should consideritself lucky if one <strong>of</strong> its members receivesan award. The year 2010 would prove tobe a pr<strong>of</strong>ound year for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong> <strong>County</strong><strong>Sheriff</strong>’s <strong>Office</strong>, as an unprecedented fiveout <strong>of</strong> eight awards were taken home byits members. On Tuesday, January 25,<strong>the</strong> award recipients, along with many <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong>ir family members, <strong>Sheriff</strong> O’Flynn,Undersheriff Sanborn and several o<strong>the</strong>rmembers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sheriff</strong>’s <strong>Office</strong>, traveledto Albany for <strong>the</strong> awards luncheon. <strong>Sheriff</strong>O’Flynn was quite busy at <strong>the</strong> podium,as he recognized each individual awardrecipient.
