2Galaxy III in Esbjerg for RefurbishmentOur agency, project, terminal andstevedore staff had a very busysummer month ahead of them when”Galaxy III”, the biggest jack-updrilling rig ever calling at Esbjerg,arrived at Sønderhavn (the SouthPort) in early July.A giant coordination job lay aheadof us together with Semco Maritime,who was entrusted with therenovation and upgrading of the26,500 ton rig, which normallyoperates in the British sector of theNorth Sea. ”Galaxy III” is ownedby the world’s biggest rig operator,Transocean.When the refurbishment of ”GalaxyIII” is completed, it will beable to accommodate 120 offshoreworkers. Semco Maritime is incharge of the actual contractor constructionproject while <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>is responsible for the service partcovering all services from transportationof the new accommodationmodule, from Semco’s yardat Fiskerihavnen to Sønderhavn,to 24-hour gangway security andcrew change assistance etc.Flare Boom shipped to HollandIn April, <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> in Esbjergloaded a large flare boom on boardthe m/v ”Wilson Tees” for onwardsshipment to Holland. (Flare boomsare mounted on offshore installationsin order to burn any flammablegasses that may build up aroundthe rig). The 122 tonne heavy flareboom measured 65 x 8 x 7.5 metresand was constructed by DanskSvejse Teknik (Danish WeldingTechnique).Transporting the flare boom fromthe factory to Esbjerg Port was a logisticchallenge and the largest everroad transport in Esbjerg. In orderto move the large cargo onto thequayside, a hole had to be made inthe fence behind <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>’s officebuilding. 35 Years in Central Jutland<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Herning will be celebratingits 5th anniversary on 1.9.At the opening, the number of staffwas 3 with Mogens Møller at thehelm.The office was originally a service/bookingoffice, offering thelocal customers in region Herninga regular contact person no matterwhether it concerned road, sea, airor courier.<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>’s strategy about beingclose to the customers has also inthis connection born fruit, as thenumber of staff from the modeststart until now has increased to 12.Today the office is divided into 2activities, one of which is generalforwarding - by road, sea, air andcourier - through the various trafficoffices in the <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> organisation.In 2004, <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Herning wasfurthermore nominated traffic officefor the Baltic States, Ukraineand Russia. Today a staff of 5 arehandling more than 50 trailers toand from these areas on a weeklybasis.Mogens Møller and his diligent colleagueshave within few years managedto establish contact with manycustomers and make a name for <strong>Blue</strong><strong>Water</strong> in Central Jutland. He is 56 years old and formerlyemployed with Smyril Line andSmyril <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> since 1999.Many clients, colleagues, familyand friends of the ”family” seizedthe opportunity to call in and seeour new fine facilities. All customerswere happy with the cooperationand we are already lookingforward to next year’s exhibition.Renewal of Smyril <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>’sReefer Trailers on the North AtlanticOn 22.5. a reception party was heldat <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Ilulissat to mark theopening of this new office. We areaware that it was about a year afterthe actual opening, but the opportunityoccurred as Ole Ulriksenand René Jørgensen/<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>Aalborg and Nana Olsen/<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>Nuuk had planned a visit to Ilulissat.According to Ole Ulriksen,the first birthday is a historicallyimportant birthday in Greenlandas there, at the age of one year, isa strong probablility that the childwill survive.Clients, workmen and friends ofthe family called in to congratulateand enjoy the delicious food, andit was a pleasure having the opportunityto talk a little business withold and potential clients.Smyril <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> operates a fleetof 150 trailers on the service betweenthe Faroes/Iceland and theContinent. To meet the ever increasingdemands for trailer designand standards, Smyril <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>has entered into an agreement forthe renewal of all reefer trailers inthe existing fleet. The trailers arebeing manufactured to withstandthe rough conditions on the NorthAtlantic. In order to meet all veterinarystandards on the Faroes,an internal groove and reservoirfor the collection of ”fish” waterare fitted. Further to this, all trailerswill be equipped with a first-graderefrigerator, ensuring superior qualityand conditions for all fresh andfrozen cargo. Delivery of the newtrailers will take place this autumn.In the middle of May, 13 new curtainsiders were delivered to Smyril<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>. Together with the 30trailers that were delivered in 2007,these trailers make up our dry cargofleet.”Quality transport is an extremelyimportant factor to our clients, andwith this new investment we arepleased to be able to fulfil theirexpectations and demands”, saysBent Rasmussen, Managing Directorof Smyril <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>.<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Ilulissat has in co-operation with Royal Greenland arrangedthat the old local Aasiaat bus will end its days in Denmark After manyyears of faithful service in Aasiaat, the bus was transferred to Ilulissat topick up workers for Royal Greenland. In future, it will be used in a goodcause in a Danish after-school care.In order to give our customers an even better service, Smyril <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>has in co-operation with Smyril Line chartered the RO/RO vessel ”Hansaland”from May to September. The vessel can carry 90 units, and we offer2 weekly freight departures between the Faroes and Denmark v.v.


5Shipbrokers’ Cocktail Party in ParisCompany Excursion in FranceOn 19.6., <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Brest attendedthe French Shipbrokers’ Cocktail,which takes place in Paris everysecond year. It was held in the beautifulsurroundings of ”Maison del’Amerique Latine” where shipow-ners and brokers mingled together. Wealso took the occasion to invite someshipowners and clients to dinner andFrench cabaret after the cocktail. Everyonehad a lot of fun which finishedin the early hours of the morning.After several successive companyskiing excursions to the FrenchPyrenees, this year’s result of thedemocratic vote of the employeesshowed a tiny and surprising majorityfor Eurodisney in Paris. 6Naming Ceremony of HollandAmerica Line’s m/s ”Eurodam”All stops were pulled out and everythingwent according to plan atthe grand celebration of HollandAmerica Line’s 135th jubilee andnaming ceremony of their newcruise ship m/s ”Eurodam” (capacity:2104 passengers and 929 crewmembers) in Rotterdam on 1.7.The event was of great importanceto the whole city, which showed itselfin the most favourable way inbright sunshine, when Queen Beatrixnamed the ship at a ceremonyfollowing a spectacular entertainmentprogramme for invited guests.After the naming ceremony, theguests were welcome to take a closerlook at the ship before the galadinner, more entertainment and agiant firework display took place inthe evening. The lucky guests wereinvited to stay the night on board.Next day the ship departed for Copenhagenon her first voyage forpaying guests/passengers.Bill Sharp/Holland America Line,Seattle and Kurt Skov took theopportunity to have an informalmeeting on board.<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Amsterdam visits DubaiSince 1997, Airchem Consumables- supplier of aircraft paints,varnishes etc. to many Middle Eastand Central Asia-based airlines -has been using the services of <strong>Blue</strong><strong>Water</strong> Amsterdam.<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Amsterdam has becomea hub for Airchem Consumablesand consequently we receive largeamounts of dangerous goods, whichneed to be stored, repacked and thendelivered to the airlines or reforwardedby road or sea. In order tocope with this flow, our warehouseis of course prepared and approvedfor acceptance of dangerous goods.In April, Bob Tisserand/<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>Amsterdam paid a visit to AirchemConsumables in Dubai and metwith Monney Javadi to discuss theco-operation and future plans. Time of arrivalin Thailand was extremelyimportant as Wagenborg would attendthe discharging. Luckily everythingwent smoothly.

As head of the strategygroup in Kolding, member of thenationwide staff network, memberof the trainee mentor group andlast but not least the newly implementedsuperuser education, Sannekeeps her finger on the pulse in thewidespread <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> network.Kirsten Skjødt started with <strong>Blue</strong><strong>Water</strong> Aarhus on 1.10.1998. Kirstenhas been part of the teamalmost from the very start at Viengevejin Risskov (a suburb ofAarhus), where she was responsiblefor all accounting. She is very popularwith her colleagues and is characterizedas a quiet and steady personand always very helpful. Pernille is on maternityleave until January with her secondchild Frederik. The family also consistsof big sister, Julie, and daddyJan. He loves football and hisfamily - wife and a son, 20 yearsold, who has successfully returnedfrom the Ranks of the AzerbaijanArmy, and a daughter, a 13-yearoldschoolgirl.Nazim is a packer and the proactiveleader of the packers’ team. He istechnically well-educated, accurateand disciplined and takes great interestin computers and technicalnovelties. Nazim has a wife andtwo children - a son and a daughterwho both go to schoolSvetlana Nikolayeva joined ourBaku team as secretary and receptioniston 5.10.1998. In 2000, shewas promoted to coordinator of theairfreight department, playing animportant part in connection withboth import and export. Svetlanais in particular good at relocatingpersonal effects and highly recommendedby expats and other clients.Svetlana is a very open and cheerfulgirl who lives with her mother,her son, Erin, and her beloved dog,Lucia. She loves animals, readingbooks and hiking.Arnbjørn Madsen will be celebratinghis 10th anniversary withSmyril <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> in Tórshavn on1.10. Arnbjørn originally served hisapprenticeship in a bank, but is todayattending to our import clients.He is married to Maiken, withwhom he has 2 sons and a daughter.We know that Arnbjørn has at least2 other passions, which nobody inthe whole world can change. Thefirst one is the Liberal Party on theFaroe Islands and Faroese self-rule- and he is always ready for a littlequick discussion regarding thisissue. The other one is ManchesterUnited - and every time they win,everybody at the office will knowfor sure - so Arnbjørn has been verysatisfied for the last year or so.Back in October 1998 (13.10),Shahin Ismaylov became part ofour Baku team as supervisor of theroad transport department. Shahinis dealing with customs clearanceof shipments arriving by trailerto Baku Customs Post. Startingas trainee, he has acquired a wideknowledge of import and exportprocedures and loading/unloadingof project cargoes as well, not leastdue to his participation in projectjobs, such as BP, Saipem, SedcoForex etc.Shahin is very competent, knows alot about customs rules, and is alwaysready to share his knowledgewith new employees.At the home front, he is a devotedfather of two little girls and lovescars, angling and dancing.Inam Abluch started with <strong>Blue</strong><strong>Water</strong>Baku on 28.10.1998 as freightforwarder in the road freight department.Through his former job,involved in container traffic, hehad been in close contact with <strong>Blue</strong><strong>Water</strong> Dubai, and from 2001 untilthe end of 2004 he accepted thechallenge of working for our officein Dubai, arranging transportsto Baku. Back in Baku again, Inamis busily involved in projects forCSC, Bos Shelf and Saipem. Inamis characterized as diligent and accurateand he is very popular andrespected among his colleagues.His interests include tennis, chessand his young wife, Ramida, andtwo charming daughters.Kenneth L. Kristensen will be celebratinghis 10th anniversary with<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Esbjerg on 1.11. Larisa is marriedto Nikolay and has two grown-upchildren.Nana Olsen Heilmann will be celebratingher 10 anniversary with<strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Nuuk on 1.12. Nanajoined our airfreight departmentafter many years with Grønlandsfly(the present Air Greenland) and hastherefore obtained a large knowledgeof the Greenland freight systems.She is today the airfreightdepartment’s ”first lady” and abreath of fresh air to the office withher smile and laughter. Furthermoreshe contributes greatly to the socialteamwork. Nana is married to Ujarak,by whom she has two grownupsons. The whole family enjoyssailing into the Bay of Nuuk to theircottage to catch trout, which theysmoke, and shoot reindeer. Nana isan expert in Greenland cuisine, andchoir singing and Dolly Parton alsotake up a great deal of her sparetime.20 YearsBack in December 1988 (1.12.88),at the opening of the Odense office,Jørgen B. Larsen was employed asterminal manager and will thereforesoon be celebrating his 20 anniversary.After 10 years in Odense, Jørgenand his wife, Kate, decided to moveto the capital of Jutland, Aarhus,and he got a job at our Aarhus terminal.Jørgen is well-known amonghis colleagues for his great helpfulnessand Funen temperament, andthe terminal would not be the samewithout him. Jørgen and Kate recentlybought a flat under brighterskies in Turkey which they visit asoften as possible.The following 5 persons were allpart of the original team whichmade up the Odense branch officeas of 1.12.1988:Ronald Hansen completed his apprenticeshipin 1978 and has duringhis entire career only workedfor two employers, however, alwaysas part of the same team. Atthe age of 53, Ronald is no doubtthe most well-known transportsalesman in Funen, and through hislarge network and cheerfulness, hecontinuously creates new contactsand good client relations. Ronaldis married to Dorthe and has fourchildren, Christian, Trine, Andreasand Sarah. Ronald devotes his freetime to his family, house and gardenand playing golf.Lea Madsen’s transport careerstarted in 1973 when she was employedas assistant in Inter-Service’sseed department. This specialniche remained Lea’s speciality formany years, until she in 2007 wastransferred to an administrativerole in the continental departmentin Odense.Lea is married to Bent and themother of two children. Tommyand Joan. When she is not at work,Lea is taking care of her family,house and garden and not least hergrandchildren.Per Offersen received his trainingat a timber merchant, but decided tochange line and became an apprenticeforwarder in 1981. Per has justturned 50, and has in his forwardingcareer always been involvedin sea freight and achieved greatexpertise in this field. Since 1988,Per has performed the function ofmanager of the sea freight departmentin Odense, but has just beentransferred to key account for specialcross trade and project clients.Per has a wife, Vibeke, and twochildren, Emil and Simone, towhom he devotes a large part ofhis free time. His other interestsinclude golf, cycling, and handball.From the start, Claus Bo Larsenmade customs clearance his specialfield, which it still is. A long customscareer has resulted in a jobas <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>’s overall customsmanager. A job, he performs withgreat enthusiasm and specialistpride. Furthermore Claus Bo hasa keen sense of humour, for whichhe is notorious and loved, not onlyinside <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> but wherever hegoes. He is also a very active referee,the top referee in Denmarkand also in the top of FIFA’s andUEFA’s international ranking list.This very interesting part-time jobtakes him to fashionable footballarenas around the world. Claus Bois married to Vibeke and the fatherof 3 children, Nicolai, Nicoline andJonathan.At the start of <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Odensein 1988, Søren Nielsen was departmentmanager, but has in more recentyears performed the functionof general manager of the officewhich today has a total staff of 70.Søren started his career in 1978 asa trainee with shipbrokers Svaneand Gjørding, Kolding, wherechartering, stevedoring and ship’sclearance were the main activities.Then followed 2 years in the transportdepartment of Lemvigh Müller& Munch, Copenhagen, before hejoined Inter-Service, Odense. Formany years, Søren performed thefunction of forwarder in the Italiandepartment of <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Odensein addition to being overall responsiblefor the company’s Italian activitiesand parallel with his managerialposition. Today Søren is stilloverall responsible for these activitiesin addition to the company’scustoms activities.Søren is married to Kirsten, whoshares his interest for golf. Havingplayed football for many years, hehas now finally put his boots on theshelf.Silver JubileeOn 1.9., Brigitte Jegou (also calledBibi) will celebrate her silver jubileein Lorient, where the accountsdepartment for our French officesis located. This was <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Water</strong>’sfirst location in France and Bibihas been based here through all theyears. She is responsible for all accountingwhich she controls with avery firm hand - almost as if it washer own money.Bibi’s liveliness and good mood aremuch appreciated by her colleaguesjust like her contribution to the successof various staff events.On the home front, she is the proudmother of two daughters, Maximeand Charlotte.
