All standards listed are required.The qualification covers skills and knowledge <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g areas:fire protection pr<strong>in</strong>ciples and <strong>in</strong>dustry knowledge;eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g measurement;fire ext<strong>in</strong>guishers and fire hose reels;first aid and resuscitation;health and safety;trade mathematics;customer service;communications and report writ<strong>in</strong>g.The qualification can typically be achieved <strong>in</strong> the course of a two-year tra<strong>in</strong>eeship or apprenticeprogramme. It leads to the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Fixed <strong>Fire</strong> Protection Systems (Level 4) [Ref:0570] and the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> Protection Systems Technology (Inspection andTest<strong>in</strong>g) (Level 4) [Ref: 0864]. People who have completed this qualification will already havesignificant credits towards the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Fixed <strong>Fire</strong> Protection Systems (Level 4) [Ref:0570].© <strong>Competenz</strong>

Accredited and registered workplace assessors may assess on job unit standards.Transition Exemptions or ArrangementsPeople currently work<strong>in</strong>g towards version 2 of this qualification may either complete therequirements of that version or transfer their results to version 3 of the qualification. The last datefor assessment of version 2 is December 2010. All new tra<strong>in</strong>ees/apprentices form January 2007will be signed on to version 3 of the qualification.This qualification conta<strong>in</strong>s standards that replace earlier standards.
