Dear fellow alumni and the entire La Salle family,
greetings from La Salle!
“Built on Excellence – Powered by Pride!” This spirit slogan for our 2009-2010 school year, developed
by members of our senior class, truly combines the legacy of our past, the intensity of the present, and
the promise of an even brighter future. La Salle High School is on the move, establishing new heights of
excellence based in the foundation of our traditions.
La Salle is a very special place. i will always treasure deeply my experiences of being a student at
La Salle 40 years ago. The teachers, activities, friends, and catholic values – are all part of a wonderful
mosaic of my special memories. Honestly, the person i am today is contributory in a huge way to my
Lasallian education. For those of us who are alumni, i believe part of our mission is to provide the same
opportunity for present and future generations of Lancers. As older “brothers” to our current Lancers, we
are responsible for their total development – spiritually, morally, academically, socially, physically, and
emotionally.
Today, we carry forth the mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle who emphasized
the development of a strong christian spirit in his students. We are called to
foster that belief through the catholic education of our Lancers. our faith
is the cornerstone of our catholic identity as a Lasallian school, and as
followers of Jesus christ, we are called to help each other to grow in the
deepening of our faith through both word and deed.
To you, my fellow alumni and our school benefactors, parents and
friends of our school who provide ongoing testimonial acceptance of
your willingness to share in the responsibility of making a positive difference
in the lives of our Lancers, i thank you for your past and present
gifts of time, efforts, words of support, and financial generosity. Please
continue to assist as much as you can, to look for ways of further answering
the call to share in our ministry for our Lancers, and to spread
the gift of our story with others, especially prospective future
Lancers and their families who will seek to experience both
the excellence of our La Salle traditions and the enormous
opportunities which await them.

Advancement Perspective
Dear alumni, parents, and friends,
it is with sincere appreciation that we acknowledge in this investors Report of the Lancer, our alumni, parents and friends
who so generously supported La Salle High School from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008.
gifts to the 2008 Annual Fund increased considerably from previous Annual Fund campaigns. over $513,247 was
generated through the ongoing support of the La Salle Family. it should be noted that $317,668 was also received in
support of our Capital Projects.
An additional $292,951 was raised through the hard work and effort of parents, staff, and students, working through a
variety of groups and organizations ranging from our co-curricular booster groups, Athletic Department, and the camelot
Auction.
Total fund raising during calendar year 2008 was $1,123,862. Thanks to each one of you whose dedicated work secured
such an extraordinary sum in support of a broad range of activities.
The ensuing year will witness one of the most exciting and dramatic times in our brief history with a variety of new
programs and initiatives. The notebook computer program will be installed and fully operational to the classes of 2013
and 2014. The Signum Fidei institute, the most unique and comprehensive program ever undertaken in a high school will
be unveiled in 2010.
i invite each of you to stop by and visit with our students and faculty. if you have not been to La Salle’s campus in a few
years, you will be pleasantly surprised at some of the outstanding changes we have made to
our physical plant and curriculum.
i want you to know how much we appreciate your generosity and the positive
impact it has had on the Lasallian education. i ask that you continue your support
in 2009 as you have done so generously in the past.

Cheviot Savings Bank Charitable Foundation
Scholarship is awarded each year to four
graduating seniors to assist them with their
college tuition.
Colerain Civic Association Scholarship was
created to assist a graduating senior from
Colerain Township with their college tuition.
Paul Cowens Scholarship Fund was
established by friends of Paul, a 1978 graduate
of La Salle, in recognition of his service and
commitment to youth in our community.
Andrew DeJaco and Raymond DeJaco
Scholarship Fund was established by
Ferdinand and Maria DeJaco, longtime
benefactors of La Salle to recognize the
commitment and dedication their sons made
to academic and co-curricular excellence while
students at La Salle.
Robert Freemal Memorial Scholarship was
established by the Freemal family in memory of
his 38-year commitment to the young men of
La Salle. The fund provides financial assistance
to needy students.
Aubrey Rose Hollenkamp Scholarship was
created by Jerry and Nancy Hollenkamp in
memory of their daughter Aubrey Rose. The
Aubrey Rose Hollenkamp Scholarship provides
scholarships to incoming students each year.
John and Theresa Huellemeier Scholarship
Endowed Scholarship was created by Jim and
Elaine Day to provide financial assistance to
those families seeking a Catholic education.

La Salle High School is proud to recognize a growing number of
scholarship funds. Many of these funds established by alumni,
parents and friends of La Salle, serve as living memorials to a
number of individuals for whom La Salle High School was special
in their lives. Please contact the Advancement Office if you would
like to establish a scholarship fund in honor of a loved one or make
a gift to any of the following funds:
Marie Kathman Scholarship Fund was created
by the Kathman family in memory of Marie.
Funds are distributed to deserving young men.
Ben Kelhoffer Memorial Scholarship was
established by the family and friends of Ben
‘98, who died at the age of 18 from leukemia.
The award is presented to a student who
exemplifies Ben’s drive, hard work, and
dedication to school, family, and friends.
James Knab Memorial Scholarship was
established by Joe Knab and the Knab family
in memory of their father. A scholarship is
awarded to the top academic student from St.
James.
Bob Krueger Endowment Fund was created
to recognize the many years of service and
commitment Bob Krueger game to La Salle
and the young men whose lives he influenced.
Lauren Kuhlmann Scholarship Fund was
formed by Bob and Margaret to memorialize
their daughter Lauren.
Donald and JoAnn LaRosa Scholarship was
created to provide financial assistance to
families with limited resources.
La Salle Alumni Association Scholarship
was established by the La Salle alumni to
provide financial assistance to needy student.
The recipients must maintain a 2.5 grade
point average, participate in at least one cocurricular
activity, and be an exemplary citizen.
McManus and Hall Memorial Scholarship was
established by Denny and Sharon McManus
to assist outstanding students who have a
financial need.
Meehan Family Scholarship was formed by
the family to provide financial assistance to
families finding difficulty in affording a Catholic
education.
Mr. Nick Scholarship Fund was formed in
memory of Mr. Nicolaci. Funds generated
by the family are used to assist deserving
students.

Scholarship established
by the family and friends
of Jack ‘70 and Louis,
provides for an annual
scholarship to needy
students who maintain
certain academic
requirements and
participate in at least one
co-curricular activity.
Will Ramsey Memorial
Scholarship Fund was
created to assist a
deserving student having a
financial need.
Frank J. Rapien Memorial
Scholarship, established by
Bill Effler ‘64 in memory of
his grandfather, provides
financial assistance to needy students.
Brandon Roesel ’02 Memorial Scholarship
was established by the family and friends of
Brandon Roesel ’02, who died suddenly of
leukemia during his senior year. Criteria for
fund distribution has yet to be determined.
Thomas Rueve Memorial Scholarship was
provided in memory of long-time supporter of
La Salle, Tom Rueve, by his wife and children.
Jim & Nancy Ruff Scholarship was established
by Jim and Nancy to assist students with
financial difficulties that limit securement of a
Lasallian education.
Thomas Schlachter Memorial Scholarship
Fund was established by the Schlachter family
to memorialize Tom in perpetuity.
James Schoenlaub’00 Memorial Scholarship
Fund was established by the family and friends
of James Schoenlaub who died tragically in an
automobile accident following the summer of
his senior year. This scholarship is awarded to
an incoming freshman from St. James grade
school.
Hal Shepherd Memorial Scholarship was
established by the family and friends of Hal
Shepherd. The award is presented to an
outstanding member of the La Salle golf team.
Robert Sontag Scholarship has been
established by the family in memory of Bob.

La Salle welcomes prospective students and their family to the annual
Open House where they can meet and greet the La Salle faculty, staff,
administration and parents of other Lancers. Open House is a great
opportunity for students to see firsthand the outstanding facilities
that enable our Lancers to excel spiritually, academically, socially,
and athletically. Our Lancer Leaders will take them on a guided tour
around campus and introduce them to members of the academic
departments, the campus minister, coaches of the outstanding athletic
teams, and club moderators from over 65 co-curriculars.
