The Cascades Golf Course 

July 1998, the first 9 holes of the Cascades Golf Course opened. The full 18-hole par 72 golf 

course was completed at the end of 1999. Designed by Gary Player Design Group between 

the coastline of the Red Sea and desert landscape of Soma Bay. The close proximity of the 

turquoise waters of the sea creates the atmosphere within a desert environment with warm 

breezes and sunny waters. 

The Cascades Golf course is as distinctive as the man who designed it. Perhaps the most 

successful international golfer of his generation, Gary Player is one of only four golfers ever to 

win the Grand Slam. His nine major titles include three Masters, three British Opens, two PGA 

Championships, and One US Open. 

He now devotes a great deal of his time to designing world class golf courses, the latest of 

which is the Cascades Golf Course. His credo for golf architecture, which is characterized in 

all elements of the Soma Bay resort, is beauty and tranquility, further he believes strongly that 

his designs must enhance the environment. Aiming to mesh flexibility on a course with an 

interesting mix of shots that test both the imagination and strategic skills of all levels of 

golfers. 

At the Cascades Golf Course, wide fairways and elevated green are defined by the natural 

rolling sand hills and 77 strategically placed bunkers. Waste bunkers accentuate almost every 

fairway creating a barrier between the natural desert and the manicured fairways. Although it 

is a desert course, water plays an important role in challenging the golfer. A series of 

landscaped lagoons, flowing streams and the Red Sea coast have been combined by Gary 

Player to create obstacles to challenge the amateur as well as the professional. Holes 9 and 

18 ending by a cascading water feature for which the course is named. 

The 9 hole Par 3 Challenge Course at the Cascades Golf Resort and Country Club opened 

September 2002. 

The 9-hole par 3 challenge course has been designed with the beginners in mind, although it 

also provides a fair test to the more advanced gofer. The holes range between 110 yard and 

175 yards, which play in different levels of terrain, providing the ideal training facility for the 

beginners. 

The highlight of the course is saved until the final hole, where the player faces a the shot of 

140 yards to the home green, which sits in the middle of a large lagoon.

thalasso program is the Aqua-tonic Pool, a large seawater facility divided into separate 

treatment zones of temperatures and aquatic massages each specifically designed to 

address a different part of the body.

Treatment Explanations 

Soma Bay Peeling: It is a process by which the top layer of the dead skin is taken off the 

face or body. This treatment should be done at the beginning of a thalasso therapy package 

only one time. In a face care a face exfoliation is always included in the treatment. For the 

body the exfoliation is done with three different kind of seaweed. 

Biocealgue: It is a body wrap of heat concentrated seawater and seaweed 

included minerals and trace elements thought to improve skin, detoxify the body, 

relieves pain an rebalance the mineral concentration on the body by “osmose” 

effects. 

Bubble bath: It is an individual treatment which associate a bubbles and jets for a 

hydro massage with specific program: to help the blood circulation to by more 

concentrated on cellulite part, to relax the body……. 

Under water massage: It is an association of the well being bath effects with the 

relax effects of the massage done by a hydro therapist with a press tre jet.. This 

treatment improves the blood circulation and release your muscle. 

Circulatory Shower: It is a specific circulation or sea water on your body to relax 

and release your muscles. 



Effusion Dynamic: It is a treatment where the guest lies on a cushion mat and 

receives a sea water rain on the body. It is a sedative treatment. 

Under effusion massage: It is a dynamic effusion combined with a message 

Aquatonic: It is a seawater pool included many area at different temperatures: jet 

area, Jacuzzi, aquatic beds, aquatic seats, umbrella showers, swim necks, geysers 

for legs, swim corridor against the stream. The guest has to follow a specific

gentle pumping technique to drain pockets of water retention 

Sea mist room: It is blue dark room which seawater has been ionized with 

negative ions and is sprayed. This treatment aids for the upper respiratory tract 

and relaxes body and mind.
