Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and <strong>California</strong>’s increasing demands for energy have helpedfuel an interest in green building.<strong>to</strong>ilets and a 50 percent reductionin construction waste.<strong>California</strong>’s emerging greenstandards also encourage the useof wood by allowing builders<strong>to</strong> use responsibly grown andharvested timber certified byany of four national marketinggroups. LEED and Build It <strong>Green</strong>,in contrast, reward only woodcertified by one group.<strong>California</strong>’s energy efficiencystandards are already much<strong>to</strong>ugher than those of the federalgovernment.
