The <strong>Krogen</strong> <strong>44</strong>reflects improvement. Whilemost of <strong>the</strong> refinements are inequipment, c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong>materials and advancedboatbuilding technology,o<strong>the</strong>r changes were made in<strong>the</strong> design because <strong>the</strong>y madesense. And according to LarryPolster, vice president of<strong>Kadey</strong>-<strong>Krogen</strong> <strong>Yachts</strong>, <strong>the</strong><strong>Krogen</strong> <strong>44</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> built from <strong>on</strong>lythree molds, to simplifyc<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong> and to eliminateseams and potential leaks.In all, <strong>the</strong> effort took 3 yearsto create, from Kurt’s initialc<strong>on</strong>ceptual design to <strong>the</strong>launch of <strong>the</strong> first <strong>Krogen</strong> <strong>44</strong>,Number One, owned by MikeFord, who also owned <strong>the</strong>first <strong>Krogen</strong> 39. Many trawlers havehad <strong>the</strong>ir decks refastenedand repaired due to th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>building practice. Today’s teakdecks are glued down withoutmechanical fasteners, so <strong>the</strong>ysuffer n<strong>on</strong>e of <strong>the</strong> potentialleak <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>sues.
