We think Glebe isSydney’s premier hockey club with a long history of success anda strong club spirit.No other club in Sydney has as many homegrown juniors playingin the senior grades. Our First Grade Mens team has won threepremierships in the last six years and nearly all players wereGlebe Juniors. Although we pride ourselves on the support andnurturing of players at club level, many have gone on to higherstate & national honours including representing Australia at theOlympic Games. Current First Grader Mark Paterson, a memberof the 2012 Kookaburras Olympic squad, played 212 juniorgames for the club.Glebe ClubGlebe is one of the oldest hockey clubs in Sydney andcelebrated its 80 th anniversary in 2010. Last year, the clubfielded 7 Mens and 4 Womens teams in Sydney seniorcompetitions, and 9 Junior teams from U11 to U17. The clubalso caters for the younger players with our popular Minkeyprogram each Saturday morning attracting kids as young asthree years old!The clubhouse is located in Arch No. 1 under the Light Railoverlooking Jubilee Oval. Further information is available on thewebsite.Club WebsiteThe club has a very informative website atwww.glebehockey.org.au Please refer to the site at all times forthe latest information, team draws, game information, club news,social happenings, game/training cancellations etc.RegistrationRegistration for the 2012 season will be held at our clubhouse onWednesday 1 Feb 2012 (5.30pm – 7.00pm) and Sun 5 Feb 2012(9.00am – 11.00am). Location is No. 1 Arch under the lightrail atJubilee Oval (closest to the station and grandstand).It has always been a Glebe tradition not to charge registrationfees for Juniors. However, there are still significant costs to beincurred such as NSW Hockey registration, insurance andCouncil Park fees.Sponsorship from Just Hockey helps cover some of these costs.However, as a generous show of support, we encourage parentsof junior players to become social members of the club at a costof $120 per family (which includes a $20 ticket in our “200 Club”major fundraiser).CompetitionsGlebe fields junior teams in the A & B Divisions of the Under 11,Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 competitions run by theCentral Area Junior Hockey Association (CAJHA). Central Areaand Northern Area are the two Associations affiliated with theSydney Junior Hockey Association (SJHA). CAJHA clubs areGlebe, Moorebank, St George/Randwick, UNSW, Sutherlandand Bankstown. The CAJHA 2011 season is expected to starton the 23-24 March (tbc). More details to follow.Under 9 – This year will also see the start of an Under 9competition over a shortened season. More details to follow.SJHA also run mixed Sydney-wide U15A and U17A competitionswith teams entered from both Area Associations. Expected startdate is 30 March (tbc).GamesGames are played mostly on Saturdays at all club venues,although this year more Friday night games are likely to occur.Glebe home games are on grass at Jubilee Oval, Glebe. Allother club fields are on artificial turf.In 2012, there may be a change to the usual game start times.Last year, Central Area games were mostly played on Saturdaysat the following times:Under 15: 9:10am – playing 30 minutes each halfUnder 13: 10:20am – playing 30 minutes each halfUnder 11: 11:25am – playing 25 minutes each halfGame times for 2012 will be confirmed in February.Sometimes changes may have to be made. Please check withyour Team Manager each week or on the website. Times onsynthetic turf surfaces, in particular, may vary. Players shouldwarm up before a game, so all players please be at theground (home or away) at least thirty (30) minutes beforethe game starts.

Mouthgards and shinpads are compulsory forgames and players will not be allowed to play if they are notin place. It is also advisable to wear them to all trainingsessions. Make sure your name is on your hockey stick. Ourmajor sponsor Just Hockey (www.justhockey.com.au) is locatedat Homebush Olympic complex and offers a discount to clubmembers.The club uniform is maroon shirt & maroon socks and can beordered online from Xpress Promotions (see the club websitefor the link). White shorts are available from the clubhouse (skirtsnot sold).TrainingTraining is on each Wednesday at Jubilee Oval from 5:30pm andusually goes for 60-90 minutes followed by a barbecue, withdrinks, sweets etc also available for sale from the clubhouse.Some teams will also have extra training at Cintra hockey field,Concord (UBD Map 233 N10). This will be advised as theseason starts. U17 train at Cintra.The first training for players wanting to trial for A Divisionteams in all age groups will be on Tuesday 14 February atCintra Hockey Field starting at 5:30pm (6:00pm for U17).Training for all other players will start at 5.30pm onWednesday 22 February at Jubilee Oval, Glebe.Teams will be selected by the coaches and Junior Committeebased on the performance and attitude at training, as well as trialgames which are presently being organized. The announcementof teams will be made as soon as possible after training starts.Junior Development ClinicsThe club is hosting two pre-season development clinics for alljuniors - doesn't matter if you are a beginner or a rep player.These will be run by senior club members including current firstgrade players, coaches and current/former state and Australianrepresentatives. All are encouraged to attend - you will learn alot!!. For the latest information on whether games ortraining are cancelled, always refer to our website. Yourmanager or coach will also advise.VolunteersThere is much organization in running such a large club. Weneed volunteers to help out as team managers, at the barbecuesafter training, setting up/taking down goals for home games andvarious social & fund raising activities during the year. Pleaseoffer your assistance wherever possible.Hookin2Hockey (Minkey)Each year Glebe runs a popular Minkey program which allowsyounger children to acquire skills and techniques in a friendly,non-threatening atmosphere. It is specifically aimed at theyounger novice – no previous hockey experience is necessary.Minkey is run by Vernon Howe, our popular Minkey Coach withhelp from members of Glebe Hockey Club. After spending one ortwo years in the Minkey Squad, the children can progress to theage teams. The usual age is 3 – 8 yrs old.Minkey is held on Saturday mornings at Jubilee Oval.
