Tara renton<br />
Professor in <strong>oral</strong> Surgery,<br />
king’s College London Dental institute<br />
Tara is a dentist with a particular interest in trigeminal <strong>nerve</strong> <strong>injuries</strong> and pain.<br />
After completing her <strong>oral</strong> and Maxillofacial surgical training in Melbourne,<br />
Tara undertook a PhD in trigeminal <strong>nerve</strong> injury at king’s College London (kCL)<br />
1999-2003. She was later appointed Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University<br />
London and then was awarded her Chair in 2006 at kCL.<br />
over the past three years, Tara has led the teaching of dental students and she<br />
has established an academic training programme which now has eight <strong>oral</strong><br />
Surgery Sprs. in collaboration with the institute of Psychiatry at king’s and<br />
imperial College, Tara and her collaborators have established an international<br />
leading trigeminal <strong>nerve</strong> injury and pain research programme at kCL.<br />
Tara is the national Advisor for <strong>oral</strong> Surgery, she is a council member of the<br />
British Association of <strong>oral</strong> Surgeons (BAoS) and is an elected member of the<br />
royal College of Surgeons of England Dental faculty Committee.<br />
Michael Escudier<br />
Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in <strong>oral</strong> Medicine,<br />
king’s College London Dental institute<br />
Michael completed undergraduate dental and medical training at guy’s Dental<br />
Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital before returning to king’s College<br />
London (kCL) in 1994. He was awarded a South Thames research Training<br />
fellowship in 1996 to investigate the use of lithotripsy in the management of<br />
salivary calculi leading to the award of an MD.<br />
He attained his fellowship from the faculty of Dental Surgery (fDS) in 1997,<br />
was appointed Lecturer in 1998, completed <strong>oral</strong> medicine specialist training in<br />
2002 and was appointed Honorary Consultant to guys and St Thomas’ (gSTT)<br />
nHS foundation Trust in 2003. He is currently Senior Lecturer and Head (kCL)<br />
and Clinical Lead (gSTT) of <strong>oral</strong> Medicine.<br />
He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds the positions of<br />
Deputy Director of Education (Assessment) within the Dental institute as well as<br />
Postgraduate Health Schools representative on the College Assessment Board for<br />
kCL. He was awarded fellowship of the faculty of general Dental Practice in 2008<br />
in recognition of his work in developing the new Membership of the Joint Dental<br />
faculties examination and a king’s Award (2011) for his work in assessment.<br />
