STAGES2.1 Getting a projectThere are actually four ways through which you can get a project:2.1.1 Official list of internal projectsFaculty members suggest projects that they are personally interested in advising. These are displayed on the Notice Board and then students/groups are given sufficienttime to select projects and discuss with the respective faculty member. Department of Mechanical EngineeringFinal Year Projectinternal advisor and co-advisor play a major role in the execution of these projects. There may or may not be an external advisor for such projects. (See FYP Calendar fordeadlines)2.1.2 Official list of external projectsAs the name implies, this list consists of projects proposed by industries, consultancies, etc. These projects have internal advisor from University & oneexternal advisor from that industry. This list is published on Notice Board by mid ofDecember along with the list of internal projects.2.1.3 Projects through your personal linksYou can also ask a senior working professional from the industry to involve yourgroup in a company project. The project must be of an undergraduate level. Make surethat you submit an application, listing the name and roll numbers of group members, duly signed by your prospective external advisor, on the official company letterhead. The application should clearly mention the Title, Objective and Scope (at least 150words describing the nature of project, methodology and expected deliverables), Type(“Design”, Design and Evaluation”, “Design and Fabrication”), Requirements (in theshape of Books, Software, Fabrication material/parts etc.). Note that you have to doall this on your personal initiative. Application must be submitted in the beginning ofNovember.2.1.4 Projects through your own proposalsIf you have any good idea regarding a final year project, jot it down on a paper firstand then find a suitable faculty member who you think may help you. The approvalfrom a faculty member is must. If the faculty member is ready to become the internaladvisor of your project, your group # will be displayed next to the project title in theofficial list of internal projects. Make sure that you submit an application in the firstweek of October to the projects’ coordinator duly signed by the internal advisor andhaving the list of group members. Note that, this way of getting a project is morefeasible if you have already worked on a project in your previous years, perhaps foran exhibition etc.2.2 Project groupsNo individual projects are allowed. A project group should have FOUR (04) students.A group of THREE (03) students is allowed in very special and rare cases. It is advised that you should start forming your group during 6 th semester/term.Grouping across sections is not recommended, since it becomes very difficult to find acommon time for working on the project due to different class schedules. You will be asked to submit your group member names, roll number etc. (See FYPGroup Submission form) at the end of 6 th semester/term theory session. All the projectgroups will be assigned a “Group Number” which will represent the merit of group.Merit will be calculated on basis of the average marks obtained in 5 th term/semesterby all group members.NED University of Engineering and Technology 2 of 3
